Intro to LXC, LXD, & Linux Containers

06:52
LXC, coupled with LXD, is very similar to Docker and CoreOS's Rkt, but there are subtle differences that set them apart. LXC is based around a Linux kernel feature called Cgroups (Control Groups), which was originally developed by Google way back in 2007. Cgroups provides Linux with functionality seen in FreeBSD jails, such as namespace allocation and process quotas. LXC allows for the creation of operating-system-level containers, which is semantically different than Docker which focuses on application-level containers. LXC containers can be thought of as Nano-OS's. A consideration when comparing LXC to Docker is, similar to Rkt, LXC functions as a feature of the Linux kernel and thus cannot be used on other operating systems such as Windows, MacOS/OSX, or BSD. Since Docker uses a cross-platform hypervisor, Docker can be deployed on any operating system that supports the Docker engine. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Flatpak vs Snap - Which Linux package format is Better?

10:34
Explore differences between Flatpaks and Snaps and decide for yourself which format is better! Flatpak is an application packaging and delivery mechanism initially developed by RedHat engineers under the Freedesktop organization. It enjoys wide spread use on the GNU and Gnome front but little use besides that (contrary to popular belief). Snappy (aka snapcraft) is a package manager developed by Canonical for Ubuntu but can be used with any Linux distribution. Is heavily used in cloud-based and embedded solutions such as IOT gateways and cloud computing instances. Flatpak and Snappy are fundamentally different because Snappy itself is a package manager, where as Flatpak is more of an application containerization engine with management tools built in. Both formats are open source and can technically run on any Linux distro. Snappy has seen far more usage and deployments than Flatpak because of it's target; development and enterprise computing. Despite this, KDE applications such as Krita and Okular can be found in Snap stores whereas they are missing from common Flatpak repositories (as of this video). Likewise, Gnome applications cannot be found in Snap stores but nearly all Gnome applications can be found as Flatpaks. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Linux KDE Neon Distro - A Month Later

05:45
I'd been using KDE Neon full time for the past month and its been a pretty interesting experience. In the first video on this channel, I was running KDE 4 on openSUSE Factory. The upgrade to KDE Plasma 5 really turned me off from KDE because it seemed so buggy. Some bugs were bad enough that Kwin would crash and only a restart would bring it back. After that I bounced around on GTK based desktops for a while and delved into GTK development. I probably stuck with ElementaryOS the longest of all the distros. I revisited KDE with my "Why Is KDE So Buggy" video and I was really impressed with out smooth and stable it was. So impressed that I decided to retire my beloved ElementaryOS for a month and try out KDE Neon. I'm very pleased I did. You can also get the full Linux KDE experience by using Kubuntu, Linux Mint KDE, or Antergos KDE. KDE Neon is just the semi-official distribution of KDE by the KDE team. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Create an ElementaryOS app with GTK & Vala! (ElementaryOS Apps Pt 1)

06:03
I asked on the ElementaryOS subreddit if folks would like to see a tutorial on how to make an ElementaryOS app using GTK and Vala. All "official" ElementaryOS apps are written in Vala and GTK3. The ElementaryOS team wrote their own GTK lib called Granite which provides lots of helpers and utilities to assist in the creation of Elementary apps. Vala is a language built on top of C and the GObject system. Valac (the compiler) is a trans-compiler that uses regular C as the language Vala is compiled into. The compiled C code is then compiled to machine code using GCC. ElementaryOS Linux is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and is developed independently by the ElementaryOS team. Much of Ubuntu's code lives in a VCS called Launchpad, most of Elementary's code lives in GitHub. While all official ElementaryOS applications use Vala and GTK, unofficial and community applications don't have to. Because of how flexible GTK+ styling is, as long as you use a toolkit that works well with GTK, your application should adopt the Elementary styling and window decorations for free! ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Installing Nvidia Drivers on openSuse Leap 42.3

03:22
Nvidia display drivers come sort of built-in to openSUSE, you just need to enable the repo to install them. Yast makes it super easy to configure repositories and other software sources for zypper. All you need to to is go into the Software Repositories section and enable the Nvidia Drivers repository. Once the Nvidia repo is enabled, either use Yast to search for and install the Nvidia drivers, or install them from the cli using zypper. Keep in mind that this guide should not be used for openSUSE Tumbleweed. There are ways of installing Nvidia drivers on Tumbleweed but do so at your own risk and don't attempt to use the built-in repo to install them. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Using Play On Linux For Windows Games On Linux!

06:17
Play on Linux is a wrapper for Wine to play Windows games and applications on Linux Play On Linux manages all your Wine prefixes and other Wineisms so that running Windows applications and games is as easy as possible. POL isn't really affiliated with the Wine project, and doesn't attempt to re-engineer Wine or anything like that. It is literally a GUI on top of your Wine prefixes to make it easier to manage them. Wine stands for Wine is not an emulator, and runs on pretty much any distro of Linux, including Ubuntu. Lutris is another application that can install and launch Wine games for you but Lutris is more of game launcher, whereas Play On Linux is more of a game manager. In this video I tested out Skyrim and Star Wars Old Republic. I had some clips of Guild Wars 2 but they didn't make the cut. Skyrim was a little bit buggy, GW2 was a little bit choppy, but Star Wars was pretty much flawless. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Install Linux Apps With Flathub & Flatpak

03:01
Flathub is a build & distribution service for Flatpak apps. Flatpak is a new format for distributing desktop apps on Linux distributions. Flathub integrates into the Gnome Software center and allows users to install Flatpak apps just like any other desktop application. Gnome Software also shows the software source inline so it is easy to see if you are installing a Flatpak or not. Flatpak is a modern distribution format for desktop applications on modern Linux distributions. It is designed to securely package up the application in a distribution agnostic way so that it can be installed and used on any Linux distro that supports Flatpaks. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Why do I even use Linux??

04:41
Here's a video for the haters and people asking me "If you hate Linux why do you use it" I use Linux because I like it 😱. I don't dislike Microsoft or Windows (I do dislike Apple and MacOS though). In fact, I kind of like Windows and the traditional desktop layout. I don't like how inflexible and authoritarian it is. Linux to me is like a project car. I can tinker and tweak it for days and still be unhappy with it. But that's the beauty of it; I can change *anything* about it. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

LXC Containers - Exposing Ports & Port Forwarding

04:11
I sort of promised to make a networking port-forward video about LXC in my previous LXC & LXD video so, here it is! Networking can be somewhat of a challenge in LXC. The (current) default use case for LXC & LXD is for use as internal containers in a virtual network. As such, you cannot easily port forward your containers like you can with Docker. Instead, you must change the nictype to make your containers publicly accessible. A side effect of this is since the container is no longer in a virtual network with the host, the host must use the router to connect to it. Port forwarding can technically be achieved by using iptables, however I think most people agree that iptables are cumbersome and are generally avoided by most users. Macvlan is a heavy-handed approach the technically exposes *all* ports to the router, which means you *must* have some kind of a firewall on your router or gateway if you want to keep your containers secured. If you want to use your LXC container as a web server or game server (like I do), macvlan is arguably the best way to facilitate it. 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Create a Qt Framework Application Using QML & Qt Quick SDK

07:37
Learn how to use QtQuick and QML to build a simple Qt Quick Controls application that is cross-platform out of the box. Qt Quick is a cross-platform application development framework with a focus on mobile applications that remain desktop-friendly. In effect, an app written with QtQuick Controls can be deployed on Android, iOS, Windows, and Linux distributions without modifying the code. QML is is a declarative markup language with a focus on UI development. QML itself is derived from JavaScript and runs atop a light weight JS engine. QtQuick enforces a JSON-like syntax but regular JavaScript function and syntax can be used. Despite Qt & Qt Quick being fully cross-platform, Qt Creator was unable to locate my Linux distribution desktop theme. This is especially strange because the desktop I was using, KDE Plasma, is written entirely in Qt. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Running KDE Neon Inside A Docker Container!

03:34
Running KDE Neon inside a Docker container on KDE Neon sounds pretty weird.. Or does it? UPDATE - Jonathan Riddell updated the Ruby script I attempted to use in this video. If you follow the directions on the KDE website with the latest version of the script, everything should work great right out the box! - https://community.kde.org/Neon/Docker Remember that running a KDE application inside a Docker container really only make sense for developers and system testers, not end-users. Applications running in Docker do not have direct access to the host's file system. In short, you shouldn't open an image in Gwenview running inside Docker unless the image was also inside your Docker container. Same goes for text files in Kate, etc. The great part about this is if you wanted to add a feature to Dolphin but you didn't want to break your system, you would hack on Dolphin running inside a Docker container. Sure you could use a VM but Docker containers are so much more lightweight. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Ansible to Update & Patch your Linux System | Devops

05:57
Ansible is a powerful configuration management tool that helps automate updating your systems and servers, among many other things. If you're familiar with other CM tools like Puppet or Chef, Ansible functions very much like Puppet Masterless or Chef Solo. It is designed to automate system administration tasks without having to write and maintain a bunch of bash scripts. CM tools are the foundation of a solid devops engineer. I used an Ansible playbook in this video, which is an integral part of the Ansible ecosystem. The ansible-playbook command makes it super easy to run playbooks with either Ansible roles or tasks, but you don't have to organize all of them in a playbook. If you administer servers, whether they be Windows Servers or Linux Servers, it would behoove you to learn about configuration management. Powershell is often used in Windows environments however Ansible can run against Windows servers too. Both Bash and Powershell have a strong tendency to get out of hand and result in code bases being unwieldy and difficult to maintain. CM tools like Ansible solve this problem entirely. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: https://egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl

KDE vs XFCE - Resource Usage Comparison

09:25
Lately it seems lots of people have been comparing KDE to Xfce in my video comments so I thought maybe it would be fun to do a non-benchmark comparison between the two desktops! I am well aware that this is *not* a perfect or ideal comparison. Instead, think of it as a fun, lighthearted attempt at seeing how the two different desktop environments stack-up to one another. Like I say in the video, I used openSUSE Leap because while Xubuntu and Kubuntu are technically based on Ubuntu, they have minor differences and since this video is already a bit dodgy, I figured using a stable base distro was a better option. KDE Neon or Kubuntu both run kde plasma and are excellent alternatives to opensuse Leap, as its Xubuntu. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Manjaro KDE vs openSUSE Tumbleweed KDE

07:38
A face-off between the two great rolling-release distros! Not everyone is aware that openSUSE Tumbleweed is a fully stable rolling release Linux distribution, just like Manjaro is! Tumbleweed and openSUSE Leap 15 are similar but Tumbleweed is the rolling variety. For this video we'll be looking specifically at the KDE flavor of both these Linux distros. In the grand scheme of things, the two distros are very similar and either make a great choice for users looking for a rolling release style of Linux distribution. In my opinion, Manjaro is more geared towards the every-day user with more applications installed out of the box and easy access to the AUR (Arch User Repository). OpenSUSE Tumbleweed is geared toward veteran Linux users and power users who want full access and control to their systems but also want enterprise-grade security and reliability. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: https://egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl

SteamPlay & Wine vs VMware | Which One Better For Windows Games on Linux?

08:19
Let's talk about Wine & SteamPlay and how it compares to running Windows 10 inside VMware Player for Linux Gaming. SteamPlay is a few feature built into the Steam on Linux. It makes it so you no longer need Lutris or Play On Linux to run your favorite Steam Windows Games because with Steam Play, they are built into your normal games library in Steam! SteamPlay is *not* Wine. It is the brand-new for an open source project called Proton which includes Wine, Dxvk, Ffmpeg, and more projects. I've covered VMware Workstation Player in other videos but I've never compared gaming on VMware with Wine. Attempting to use VMware as a gaming environment has it's own issues because VMware was never designed with performant 3D rendering in mind. Bottom line is - in many cases VMware offers better compatibility with games and applications than Wine does. However because VMware is virtualization and Wine is not, SteamPlay is going to offer better performance in general. AMD vs Nvidia Gaming Performance On Ubuntu 14.04

02:50
#AMD or #Nvidia graphics - which is the dominant #GPU on Linux? We'll look at 4 sets of benchmarks to determine which GPU is the better choice on Linux. I think everyone who uses Linux for gaming is aware of AMD's foul reputation for driver support on Linux. Now that I have both AMD and Nvidia cards, I can compare them side by side. And I'll say that installing AMD drivers on Linux makes installing Nvidia drivers look like a joke. As far as raw gaming performance goes, Nvidia clearly has the upper hand. In the synthetic GPU performance benchmarks, the AMD card did quite well. In the actual gaming performance benchmarks, the AMD GPU fell down and never got back up. #AMDVSNVIDIA ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ My Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

5 Reasons Why I Use openSUSE Leap 15 Linux 2018

10:09
Here's a fun & short list of reasons why I've decided to return and stick with openSUSE Leap 15 after years of distro hopping. Want to support the channel? Consider giving PureVPN a test drive. It's a solid VPN service and whatever you spend on their service helps out the channel! https://www.purevpn.com/order-now.php?aff=33905&a_bid=bbd0f893 OpenSUSE was the second Linux distribution I ever used. The first distro was Fedora but I had lots of issues with it and I hated Gnome 2 so I didn't stick with it. OpenSUSE uses KDE Plasma as their primary desktop and the branding was and is stellar: it made me want to use it. OpenSUSE also has Tumbleweed for folks who want an Arch-Like rolling release, rather than a static release cycle like Ubuntu. Lots of developers from SUSE hack and support openSUSE but from what understand, they do so as a community effort, not because they are trying to further the goals of the parent company (in contrast to Fedora). I think of OpenSUSE Leap as a sane version of Centos. They are very similar in that OpenSUSE is sort of the community offering of SUSE enterprise, however it's not a full-blown clone and has a spirit of its own. It's impossible to use OpenSUSE and not use Yast. In my opinion, Yast is THE best tool on Linux. It helps to make all the powerful commands and in-built tools for Linux accessible to users who do not want to become intimate with the command line. And to the best of my knowledge, no other distro has this. How exactly do you enable auto-login for #SteamOS? What if you want to boot directly into the Linux desktop mode? This is a pretty common question I see asked in the Steam Community and on Reddit. Since SteamOS is just a GNU/Linux distribution with a new GUI on top of it, all the normal "auto login" steps apply all the same. Most users won't want to do this for a number of reasons. But for power users (like myself), this is an awesome feature. Just follow these steps: • Enable "Linux Desktop" mode from the Settings - Interface menu. • Switch to Desktop Mode • Go to the Settings - Users menu • Select the SteamOS Desktop user account • Toggle automatic login from "Off" to "On". Keep in mind that SteamOS itself and the Linux Desktop are two completely different users; Steam games you've installed under your normal Steam user account will not appear under the Linux Desktop user. Also remember that Valve did not intend for SteamOS to be used as a desktop OS. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ My Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

My issues with Snap & Flatpak

08:16
Snaps & Flatpaks were supposed to replace traditional software repos with better & safer app containers. What happened? Well, reality happened. It's been over a year since my last video about Snaps and Flatpaks and to be honest, little has changed. Especially with Snaps. Flatpak 1.0 released this month which brought it fully out of beta-mode. Snap (Snapd, Snapcraft, etc) has been version 2 for over a year, though you wouldn't know that if you used it today. Snap (also called Snappy) has it's own little AppStore which can also integrate somewhat into the Ubuntu Software Center. Snapcraft development is largely sponsored by Canonical, the folks behind Ubuntu Linux. Flatpak has it's own AppStore of sorts called Flathub. Flatpak and Flathub integrate into Gnome Software, though the breadth of this integration largely depends on your distribution. For example the integration is flawless in Fedora, but more or less broken in openSUSE. Ultimately, Snaps and Flatpaks do not replace your distributions software repositories, they at best augment it. If you are using Arch, just use the AUR. Upgrading From Fedora 26 to Fedora 27

03:34
Fedora 27 was released today so let's see how upgrading from F26 to F27 goes! Turns out, the upgrade experience was pretty lousy. Despite Fedora 27 being a pretty unremarkable release (for the desktop user), there seemed to be a regression with Gnome/GDM in detecting whether or not the current display driver is compatible with Wayland. The result was my Nvidia driver was completely disabled when I logged in for the first time. There was another issue with VMware on Fedora 27. Whilst it may have been an issue with VMware Workstation, its still rather annoying that simply upgrading my Fedora version cause yet another problem. In general, I'm disappointed at the issues I ran into upgrading Fedora this time around. Fedora 25 to 26 was seamless and awesome. From 26 to 27 has been a pretty crummy experience. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Kubuntu 18.04 vs KDE Neon 5.13 | Linux KDE Desktops

09:09
Let's take a look at Kubuntu 18.04 and KDE Neon 5.13 from a fresh install to installing applications! I cover a bunch of topics on this video, each topic could arguably be it's own video. I do my best to keep the videos short (under 10 minutes) so I apologize if this one seemed hasty. I'm of the opinion that the KDE is the most underrated and underused desktop environment available for Linux. Regretably, it does have issues with Nvidia which is a huge drawback. If not for the bugs with Kwin & Nvidia drivers, I would say the KDE is the best desktop environment available for Linux! Kubuntu and KDE Neon are fantastic distros. I can't really recommend one over the other because they are so similar. If I had to recommend one, I'd say this: Kubuntu: If you want the latest Ubuntu core OS KDE Neon: If you want the latest & greatest KDE software Support the channel by checking out my hardware specs! 👇 Primary OS: openSUSE Leap 15 http://bit.ly/2NkunPk Motherboard: ASUS 970 Gaming Aura https://ebay.to/2NdGWvA CPU: FX-6300: https://ebay.to/2NeBh8v GPU: Nvidia GTX 760: https://ebay.to/2NdK4Ym RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: https://ebay.to/2NiphTF SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: https://ebay.to/2NnIOlm HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: https://ebay.to/2NnIW4k ☝️ These links are affiliate links and purchases help to support the channel!

Introduction to Snappy, Snapd, and Snapcraft!

05:50
Snappy and Snapcraft are fantastic new tools to help developers package applications and help users install them! Snap packages offer a way to sandbox applications and package all dependencies so that the application doesn't need to rely on the system to provide them. A common issue across Linux distributions is distributions using different or even custom versions of commonly used system libraries. Sandboxed applications such as Snap and also Flatpaks effectively solve this problem. Sandboxing applications also helps prevent a malicious application from doing damage to the system because application code cannot be executed outside of the sandbox. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

How To Install SteamOS 2.0 Brewmaster

04:14
Installing #SteamOS is pretty easy if you use the installer. I even modified the partition setup and it was still super easy. Recording #BIOS and pre-OS activities means I have to use a physical camera on a tripod. Since the room I record in is generally pretty dark, the contrast is terrible. Sorry about that =/ ALSO - Don't follow this guide if you are installing SteamOS #Alchemist. How To Add Debian Repositories To SteamOS Brewmaster

It's easy enough to get into desktop mode with SteamOS Brewmaster but adding Debian repos is a bit more tricky. The SteamOS repositories afford only basic functionality in the way of apps and libraries. You'll need the official Debian 8.1 Jessie repositories to really make the most of your SteamOS desktop. Elementary OS 0.3.2 vs Ubuntu 16.04 | Gaming Performance Benchmarks

02:07
In this video we pit ElementaryOS 0.3.2 vs #Ubuntu 16.04 using the #opensource Mesa driver and my #AMD R7 360. I decided to do something a little different with this benchmark and use the old Unigine Tropics demo, and a War Thunder benchmark. Under the Fglrx driver, War Thunder has major graphical issues which is why I haven't used that benchmark in a long time. It should surprise nobody that Ubuntu 16.04 came out ahead in this benchmark. ElementaryOS 0.3.2 is still based on Ubuntu 14.04 which means an older #Linux kernel and older drivers all around. Despite that, the benchmark results weren't bad for ElementaryOS. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ My Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Installing & Setting Up Ubuntu Snappy on Raspberry Pi 3

05:07
Ubuntu Snappy was the now-deprecated pre-Spap-only distribution of Ubuntu for embedded devices. This particular version of Ubuntu has been deprecated in favor of Ubuntu Core which I made a video about here - https://youtu.be/Gxg2r-BmvrQ Installing Ubuntu Snappy on the Raspberry Pi 3 is a snap! And Canonical's new package management called Snappy, Snapd, or Snapcraft brings some really innovative things to the world of Linux package management. About Ubuntu Core: Ubuntu Core, also known as Snappy, is a stripped down version of Ubuntu, designed to run securely on autonomous machines, devices and other internet-connected digital things (Internet of Things). About the Raspberry Pi 3: The Raspberry PI is a family of small single-board computers running an ARM processor and designed for education and embedded solutions. About Snaps & Snapcraft: A snap is a fancy zip file containing an application together with its dependencies. Snaps are designed to be secure, sandboxed, containerised applications isolated from the underlying system and from other applications. Ubuntu Core is an ideal OS to use on a Raspberry Pi 3 due to its extremely small size and light weight, plus the added benefit of having Snappy installed and ready after install. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ My Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Upgrading from Fedora 25 to Fedora 26 - Start to Finish

03:03
I've been secretly running Fedora 25 for a week or two and now it's time to upgrade! I've always heard that Fedora has a rough time with Nvidia drivers so I was a little worried that the upgrade would wreck my display and force me to boot into a tty. Installing the Nvidia drivers on Fedora 25 was super easy. I actually just used the RPMFusion repo and followed their instructions. Maybe with some GPUs you have to get the driver from Nvidia and boot into a tty to install it but apparently not with my GTX 750ti I'm really enjoying Fedora and I've been really impressed with how functional and stable it is. So far the only issue I've had with it has been around video rendering. I might just jump ship from ElementaryOS and Ubuntu land to Fedora full-time. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Chocolatey - Install apps from cmd prompt with Powershell

04:53
Chocolatey is an cmd line tool that uses Powershell scripts that are very similar to a batch file to install and setup applications on Windows. Chocolatey is open source & licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License (AGPL). Its built on top of the Nuget framework, a code-specific package management tool build and open sourced by Microsoft for platforms that run NET Framework. The way Chocolatey works are nearly identical to the Arch AUR. The Chocolatey repos host build scripts that download binaries and installers from websites and install them into your system. The Chocolatey install scripts are written in a language called PowerShell which is somewhat similar to bash. Chocolatey is mostly a CLI application but most end-users can benefit from the ChocolateyGUI, which is an unofficial package written by the Chocolatey community. Chocolatey uses Nuget, which is a tool from Visual Studio, to fetch and install packages on Windows. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Why Is KDE So Buggy?

05:17
Why is KDE perceived to be so buggy and slow? In my opinion the answer is simple - Software Development is hard. KDE isn't a desktop environment - it's an entire framework. Built on the shoulders of *another* framework called QT. Within the KDE framework is a desktop environment called Plasma Desktop (also called Plasma Workspaces). Each application within the KDE framework relies on other applications, libraries, and sub-frameworks both within the parent KDE framework, but also other frameworks such at MLT and FFMPEG for Kdenlive. These tightly-coupled dependencies create a very difficult to test infrastructure that adds to the buggy-nature of KDE. There's a concept in Object Oriented programming called Encapsulation in which (among other things) properties and methods of an object are self-contained or "hidden" from other objects. A side effect of this practice helps to prevent dependency hell as seen in most KDE applications. 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Linux Gaming (Ubuntu) vs Windows 10 on VMware Benchmarks

03:33
How does gaming on Windows 10 in VMware Workstation measure up to gaming on Linux native? Before anything else - this is NOT PCI/GPU passthrough. VMware Workstation is a type 2 hypervisor and thus cannot support any form of hardware passthrough. VMware Workstation Player 12.x provides a DirectX 10 compatible display driver for the virtual Display Adapter provided to the the guest operating system. Why would you want to game in a VMware virtual machine? Occasionally running games on Wine has undesirable side effects such as forced single-threading, no network connection (ala DirectPlay), or issues around DRM and anti-hack (Battleye) technologies. Since a VMware virtual machine is running a legitimate instance of Windows (not a reverse-engineered version of the Win32 API), these issues do not occur. Keep in mind that running a VMware virtual machine doesn't solve every problem. Performance is always worse than simply running the game in a native instance of Windows. And while performance may be similar or better than running the same game via Wine, it's still not the perfect solution, which is developers and publishers porting their games to Linux. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

How To Play The Sims 4 On Ubuntu Linux!

02:41
The Sims 4 is now super easy to install and play on Ubuntu Linux! Even with EA's Origin, it's really simple. #TheSims4 was met with somewhat mixed (albeit mostly positive) reviews when it was released. Despite the naysayers, it's an extremely popular game and admittedly, it's really fun to play. Since the previous Sims 4 video I did was really popular, I figured folks would enjoy a video about installing it! And while you can use Play On Linux or plain ol'Wine, I encourage anyone using Wine regularly to buy a copy of CodeWeaver's CrossOver. They do promotions all the time where you only pay like $10 and the money goes directly to supporting the Wine project, and the Linux community as a whole. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ My Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

KDE Neon Test Drive!

05:35
I'm going to be giving KDE Neon a thorough test drive for the next couple weeks! I'll even be recording some videos with it! The first time I really sat down and used a KDE-based distro was when I did my "Why Is KDE So Buggy" video. That particular video has gotten pretty popular and I'd prefer it if people don't assume I have a bias against KDE.. I'm actually quite impressed with it! KDE was the first desktop environment I used back with KDE 3.5. I thought it was great but KDE 5.x has been pretty buggy. This latest version of KDE isn't buggy or slow.. it's awesome! I'm going to be using KDE Neon for about two weeks and I've got a few videos planned where I'll be using it in the footage. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

How to create Flatpaks with Gnome Builder IDE

05:50
Gnome Builder provides a super quick and easy way to create and bundle your applications as Flatpaks! Bundling your application as a Flatpak means that it will run on **any** Linux distribution that have Flatpak installed which is most distributions by default at this point (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc). A few months ago I made a video where I created a Vala application on ElementaryOS using Gnome Builder. The developer of Builder pointed out that I was using a very old version of Builder, so I installed the latest version.. And wow! Gnome Builder is amazing! So in this video I took a shitty old Nibbles/Snake clone I wrote in Vala several years ago and packaged it as a Flatpak. I only needed to make very minor changes for this to work. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Gnome Builder For Vala & GTK Apps on ElementaryOS Linux

10:09
Gnome Builder is a Linux IDE that helps you write awesome applications GTK applications for ElementaryOS and other GTK distros. Gnome Builder is a relatively new IDE for Gnome that sort of replaces the previous defacto IDE, Anjuta. Gnome Builder still has some growing and maturing to do but overall it is a decent and stable little IDE. Since ElementaryOS' desktop environment is Pantheon which is based entirely on GTK+ and Vala, Gnome Builder fits right in, looking like a native Elementary app, and enables developers to write great GTK applications. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

OpenSUSE Leap 42.2 On Raspberry Pi | Running NodeJS Website

06:14
OpenSUSE is one of the latest Linux distributions to cross from desktop linux-land onto embedded systems with the Raspberry Pi! Actually openSUSE images have been supported on Raspberry Pi's since at least 2014 which makes it one of the first distributions to do so. I found openSUSE to run incredibly well on my Raspberry Pi 3 with the Broadcom BCM2837 SoC. Compared to Ubuntu Snappy, I found openSUSE to be *significantly* quicker. In this video we used openSUSE Leap 42.2 on a Raspberry Pi 3 to run my website which is an EmberJS & NodeJS web app. It took upwards of 20 minutes to retrieve and compile the node modules for the website. Overall the website ran just fine though. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Getting Started With Vagrant On Ubuntu 16.04

10:59
Hashi Corp's Vagrant application is a very useful tool for developers and devops alike. It hugely speeds and and simplifies the process of creating a virtualized development environment In this video we will go over finding Vagrant in the package repositories, using the Vagrant Atlas, a brief overview of a Vagrantfile, and creating a new Vagrant box from scratch. Installing and setting up Vagrant on Ubuntu or Fedora is easy because it's in the default repositories. Getting setup with Vagrant on openSUSE is a bit more involved because it is not located in the default repositories. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ My Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

How To Install EA Origin On Linux

04:13
EA's Origin is notoriously difficult to install on Linux. Fortunately with Crossover and PlayOnLinux, installing Origin because much easier. Sadly, installing Origin is still no walk in the park and as of the date I made this video, there were still strange bugs that needed to be resolved before successfully installing the darn thing. I've read mixed reports about whether or not you need to download or manually extract the archive file I used in the video anymore. That is by far the most annoying part. You can read more about how to install it from WineHQ - https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=26175 Check out this video of The Sims 4 on Linux - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwR-jpLUhR0 ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ My Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Use Ansible to Setup & Provision Vagrant Boxes | Devops

05:43
We're using Ansible and Vagrant to build, setup, and provision Virtualbox VMs. Vagrant can be used to deploy a basic box from a Vagrantfile but you can also specify what type of provisioner (if any) you want to use to setup your Vagrant box. In this case, we used an Ansible Playbook to provision our Vagrant box. Ansible is a configuration management tool similar to the popular tools Chef and Puppet, though Ansible doesn't require a server so it's more like Puppet Masterless or Chef Solo. Ansible is also very similar to SaltStack. Ansible and other configuration management tools are invaluable to DevOps engineers. Configuration management tools such as Ansible form the backbone of continuous integration pipelines and are often called Infrastructure As Code. CM tools are often used for various systems administration tasks, especially around networking and server deployments. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: https://egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl

Manjaro Linux vs elementary OS | Gaming Benchmarks!

05:42
This sounded like a fun video to make. Then came Kdenlive... What does Kdenlive have to do with all this? Well its the video editor I use and it's a notoriously buggy piece of garbage. Seriously though, I was moving away from Manjaro back to elementary OS and figured I could make a simple gaming benchmark video whilst doing so. Everything went fine until I had to edit the clips together. Kdenlive crashed nonstop and apparently added some artifacting to the clips at some point during the editing process. Those weird lines you see in the video, especially during the Rust clips, were no present when I was recording the footage. Anyway, I thought this video would be fun because Manjaro is based on Arch Linux so its a cutting edge rolling release. ElementaryOS on the other hand is based on Ubuntu LTS and is composed of mostly stale packages, including the Nvidia driver version. Old vs New packages and drivers, what's there not to love about that? ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: https://egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl

Learn GTK UI Development with Ruby & Shoes on ElementaryOS

06:25
Shoes is a super cool UI toolkit for Ruby made to make writing applications as easy as possible. Shoes runs on GTK and adopts to whatever styling is set by the platform. This makes it very easy to write applications that mesh well with the overall ElementaryOS aesthetic. The downside to using Shoes is that it is rather old. Shoes 3.x is written in C and has many fundamental problems such that the developers decided to rewrite the core of Shoes with Jruby. A Ruby gem called green_shoes is the canonical successor to the original Shoes, however it uses GTK2 (instead of GTK+/3) and hasn't been updated in sometime. Because the Shoes ecosystem is so fragmented right now, I personally don't recommend using Shoes for anything besides learning UI development. However as an educational tool, Shoes shines is possibly the best real-world programming framework and library for getting up to speed with asynchronous UI development. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Learn GTK development with Genie (ElementaryOS Apps Pt 3)

03:23
Genie is a language developed for GTK and compatible with the Vala & GTK API. In fact, it uses the same API that Vala does. Vala is the programming language used by the ElementaryOS team to develop apps. Since Genie and Vala use the same API, the same apps could be written in Genie. Genie uses the Vala compiler and does not compile code into machine code. Genie code is compiled to C code with GTK Gobject libraries. The C code is then compiled to machine code and used to produce an executable. Genie and Vala are mainly used for developing GTK apps however there's nothing technically preventing it from being used for any other application. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup
