Last year we saw a HUGE resurgence of retro-style platformers like Sonic Mania, A Hat in Time and even Super Mario Odyssey. It looks like 2018 is going to continue that trend. Here's a bunch of games coming out this year riddled with old-school influence.

The game I can't wait for this year is Ion Maiden, a Build Engine game published by 3DRealms Oh, and Amid Evil, too. 2018 is shaping up to be the year of '90s revival, and I can't say I'm unhappy about it. :)
I'll be 37 this April, and still gaming strong, but usually on-the-go, which is why the switch is a godsend after i got tired of seeing trash releases on mobile, even though there are premium hidden gems on the appstore sith pile.
And i'm really glad retro-style games are making a huge comeback. For the 2D sidescrolling ones, 8BitDo's getting some lovin. :D
This is hardly something new, retro games have been on the rise ever since the first two New Super Mario Bros games sold incredibly well. The difference now is that instead of taking inspiration from 8 bit and 16 bit games, now we’re emulating 32 and 64 bit games.
Resurgence??? Lol the indie peeps have been churning out these retro games for a WHILE now. Big developers are kinda getting in on the action now too....but honestly I’m getting just a little tired of seeing this pixel-style being the go to for indie games. A Hat in Time and Yooka-Laylee are the only 2 that come to mind that are 3D “retro” games, and only ONE was successful in being any good.
I'm 42 and I've been playing games since probably 1980 and loved the retro vive for a while but I'm ready for more modern triple A titles on the Switch with games like the current Tomb Raider games or the newer Castlevania titles. I love the fact that Skyrim and Dark Souls are coming but I want more. I would love Diablo 1 through 3 though.
Mmmmm...no. Retro gaming is back thanks to, in larger part, PC, as that's where most of the retro resurgence scene and largely, indie development, which has been driving the retro resurgence for quite some time now, is.
