Playing games with other people online is really fun (have we mentioned we quite like Overwatch?) but sometimes you simply can't beat a bit of local multiplayer.
With Worms WMD out this week, we decided it was high time we discussed our favourite local multiplayer games. You can find eight of them in the video below.
Now obviously there wasn't time to list every decent local multiplayer game out there and the chances are we've missed one of your favourites, so please feel free to champion your own picks in the comments below. Unless you're one of those people who thinks Diddy Kong Racing is superior to Mario Kart, of course.

rayman best platformer in last 10 years???? f*ck me. its not even a good platformer. it looks pretty but you speed through the levels so fast its just boring
now donkey kong (on wii or wii u)..... there's a candidate for best platformer in years
Thought you were gonna pick actual local multiplayer games not game with local multiplayer. Rocket league for example has local but most people play online so it more of an online game than a local one. Also No timesplitters 2?? REALLY???? FOR SHAME!! Put crap like gang beasts and missed out timesplitters.. Just shameful..
Halo 1 Local Multiplayer was the best. Getting together 16 people for total trash talk was awesome. Sometimes just 8 people for a good 4 on 4 was the best. I remember hours playing on Blood Gulch with friends. Eventually it turned into friendly fire battles once everyone got tired haha
Next would likely be the Worms series. Had tons of fun playing as a young teenager and even later on when it was released again on Xbox 360 in a house I rented out with a bunch of friends.
Mario Kart 64 was my favorite. It was before they added too many programs to make the game more "equal" by giving worse players a boost
No Smash Brother's? Time to extend the list.
Here we go:
Mario Kart 8
Push Me Pull You
Divinity Original Sin
Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
Fight me because I love Mario Kart on the Wii. I had a lot of fun playing that with my friends years ago, it was my 2nd console I have ever had and my 1st game on it. That game lasted years, I never got bored of it.
you degenerate back in the good old days. You probably don't know what a good game was. But any ways this arn't split screen but are far better. Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sun Shine and Legend of Zelda Ocerna of time
best local multiplayer games on PC
- Nuclear Throne
- Black Ops 3 (yeah you can splitscreen!)
- Trine (any of the three in the series)
- RocketBirds: Hardboiled chicken
- Shank (and Shank 2)
- Magicka (and Magicka 2)
- Guacamelee! Gold Edition
- and any fighting game
Runbow on the Wii U has been a big hit at my gaming sessions. Competitive platforming where the background changes colour and hides platforms as you race your way to the end. The best part is that is can play with up to nine players, which makes running through a level a bit more chaotic. Even if you get eliminated early on, it's funny to watch others race and often fail to reach the goal.
