It looks like the SFANS IndieGoGO campaign was riddled with issues and is widely considered a fraud. Don't go for that. Get the Insignia one. I'll test some other dongle-style adapters at a later date. The FastSnail one seems safe.
No you guys are both wrong the vents in the back are for collecting cool air for the system and like you said the fan on the top releases hot air. The speakers are the two small openings below the screen, on opposite sides of the sensor.
Nyko has had a class action lawsuit filed against for bricking switches, afaik. Don't know how much of a case the class has. If i understand correctly, insignia has had the same sort of problems that nyko is being sued for. I'm not very familiar with the details, but I figured i would mention here.
Don't get any Switch Dock that isn't an official Nintendo Dock. I used one and it messed up the USB-C port on my Switch. It won't connect to the official Dock or charge with the official charger. I managed to get it to charge with my phone charger, but only very slowly...
I'm hoping I'll be able to get it fixed. I'm thinking of just buying a new one and transferring my data first just so I don't lose any saves that I spent months on...
I work at the technical support department for insignia products (actually for all the exclusive brands sale at Best buy) I haven't have any phone calls in regards this dock station from insignia. So I bet is works fine.
Best portable dock iv'e gotten is this one by Rocketek....https://www.amazon.com/Rocketek-Adapter-Nintendo-support-Function-Converter/dp/B07799B3JD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521967185&sr=8-1&keywords=nintendo+dock+rocketek
You can plug your Controllers, like the Zelda-themed one & charge it at the same time in portable mode! Which is what I wanted to do. Also has an HDMI port to connect to your TV & it's just a dongle! put it in your case & take it with you! BOOM! best "dock" eva!!
I have the Insignia dock, and I can't recommend it enough. Almost considered getting a second one just to replace the main dock that came with the Switch _(got the first dock to have an easier way to play the Switch on my bedroom TV)_ .
Beware of the Nyko one. I have seem to have succumb to the issues that mess up the switch. (Blinking green light, not charging, and not outputting image to TV) I have to send my switch in (6 days now out of warranty) so its going to cost me $118.
I too have a Nyko dock. I was happy with it and haven't experienced any issues. After reading so much about bricking defects, I stopped using it and I'm afraid to hook it up again. I'm sure I have a good one if I haven't been bricked yet, because many reports are for first time use, but I'm not taking the chance. Thanks for the paperweight, Nyko!
Can confirm. Picked up the Insignia dock a few months ago specifically for travel, as I live out of hotels most of the year. It's perfect for throwing in a carry-on or suitcase with my Pro Controller, though a bit too bulky to fit in my laptop bag.
I’m waiting for a more full featured dock. I’m not a business traveler.
I want to get rid of dongles and peripherals sticking out of my dock.
I want a dock that has USB ports on both sides, built in Ethernet adapter and a slot for a 2.5” SATA drive already connected through the USB 3.0 port.

Well, a dock could upscale the 720p/1080p video the switch outputs to a 2160p, but why would I want that? First off, it cost a lot, like ranging from a few hundred to thousands (like good Upscalers do, if you don't believe me look up how much retro gamers pay for Upscalers, the OSSC and xrgb Mini are the two most common and cannot do anywhere near 2160p). Secondly, it would only work with the Switch, if I am getting a Upscalers I want to be able to use it for other consoles too.
What I would want from a Switch dock? Two hdmi ports, a button to switch between dock and tabletop (while charging), at least two USB 2.0 and to future proof, a couple USB 3.0. Besides that I cant think of anything.
I bought and returned the Insignia one. I did not like how they covered up the vents on the Switch. There are vent holes, but it just seems more obstructed than the stock one. Though, it doesn't look like there's much other options. I have the Nyko one, but also fear for my Switch's well being given I had a scare of suddenly no video output and no response using it. Also, don't know how good the Insignia USB charger is... given all the crap chargers and Nintendo not actually following USB-C spec, I'm almost willing to just get another Nintendo dock. Almost.
Happy that my Nyko one works without issue. Seems to be that if its defective, it bricks pretty much immediately, I've used it for months without issue, it feels like I'm in the clear at this point, I've even updated the dock's firmware as Nyko recommends.
I might get the Insignia one, and use that as my main setup one.
And then just take the Nintendo brand one my switch came with as my travel one.
I know that might seem stupid, but I bought the Switch Back Pack thing, and it has a packet for it, so it makes sense
Hello Bob, I would like to thank you for this video. I live in Merida, Mexico at the Yucatan peninsula (like 3 hours away from CanCun), and I purchased in Amazon the charjen Pro dock and got it ship down to my hometown, and I simply I love it. Thank you Man you are in did the true Nintendo Switch Doctor.
The Nyko dock almost bricked my switch for a second time. I already sent it it to Nintendo but you know I thought I'd give nyko the benifit of the doubt. NOPE. Seemed to work fine at first but it made my switch freeze on the boot screen. Even after removing it. Only reason I saved it the second time is because I plugged it into the original switch dock. Didn't work that way the first time it happened so I had to send my console in. There's a reason the Nintendo dock is 90 bucks. It won't brick your shit.
Honestly you can get one of those Dongles and a hyperkin Charger and it works just fine with no issues, together you'll probably pay 45-50$(CAD)for both the dongle and the charger, but its worth it. dont know US prices since everything is cheaper for you guys anyway so its much less
Clean your grease off your stuff before you make a video you greasy bastard. So gross. What do you eat a meal of fish and chips with your hands and then pick stuff up?? Also.. WHY ARE YOU YELLING IN YOUR VIDEOS? ITS REALLY IRRITATING TO HEAR SOMEONE YELLING INTO THE SCREEN.
I have use my Motorola Z play phone charger with my Nintendo Switch and it works fine. Well, with the only thing different is that the charger gets hotter than wen I use it on my phone. but is nothing to extreme!
Does anyone have an opinion on the SUPVIN Portable Charging Station for Nintendo Switch, I found it on amazon and it is half the price of the Charjenpro switch hub. But the Supvin has no reviews and I don't want to risk bricking my switch.
