Top 10 Hardest Super Nintendo Games
These are the toughest games we ever had the displeasure of subjecting our SNES to. But which is the most difficult? Will it be a classic like Contra III or Prince of Persia, a copycat entry like Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, a beloved platformer like Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest or Castlevania, an obscure one like Earth Worm Jim 2, or everyone’s favorite rage quitter, Super Ghouls & Ghosts. Only one can be the most frustrating, so let’s find out!
For this list, we’re not interested in games that are hard due to bad programming, horrible level design or buggy controls. We’re looking for titles that are intentionally challenging and totally worth playing through to the end.

I like this list but I don't agree with it fully. First of all the original Earthworm Jim is considerably harder than the second game. Dkc2 is the most difficult dkc game for the SNES by far, but whether I would put it in the top 10 I'm not actually sure.
What a joke. You consider DKC2 hard, but yet you consider Hagane easy enough to keep off this list? Seriously? Also, Battlemaniacs was leaps and bounds easier than Battletoads NES. Then you make that "you heard me correctly" remark about the snake section as if that's something we didn't already see in the NES original game. What's with the lack of SHMUPS? There are so many of those that are harder than most of the games on this list.
I simply don't understand why Super ghouls and ghosts always makes these hardest snes games lists. With some motivation and practise, I could beat it pretty fast. When I was a kid I had the Jungle book game. Rareley made it through level 3 on that and if I did I was almost dead anyway. Ten times harder than super ghouls and ghosts.
Super ghouls was awesome though. I just think it's difficulty is highly overrated. many snes games harder than that.
The jungle book sucked though...
UN Squadron was pretty hard, even when I had memorized where all the hidden energy recharges and shields were located. I went back to the game after 20 years and tried starting on the hard mode, that was a mistake!
"Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts" belongs in the collection of truly bizarre hard games...basically games that reduce the difficulty if you're good at it while making the game harder if you're not. If you're good at "Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts", you'll keep your armor long enough to get the Gold Armor, at which point you'll not only be able to hit enemies far more easily with less platforming skills but you'll gain the ability to use magic which allows you to have temporary invincibility, which is the biggest advantage you can get in that game.
The only game I found more infamous for that is "Startropics". You have to have your life filled up as much as possible to keep using your best and most effective weapon, but the more damage you take the weaker your weapon becomes. And if you die, you always only start with enough life to have your weakest weapon, so you can't stay alive long enough to gain enough health to power it up. The only way you can get any use out of it is if you're already skilled enough to never get hit, at which point you wouldn't need the powered-up weapon anyway.

1. Super Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back
Me and my brother grew playing so many of those games. My favourite was super gouls n ghost, empire strikes back, and DK, surprised Starfox didn't make the list some ppl found that hard like myself, it took long time to find out the secret stages or levels.
ever played raiden trad on snes ? this game is hard. all these games shown in here, are games where you can memorize the moveset of the enemies. but raiden trad. goddamnit... play it on hard. you will never reach the end of the game. i know it was not a snes exclusive. its actually an arcade game but still. i couldnt finish this motherfucker since 20 years on hard...

When I was a kid I cleared all levels of "super ghouls n ghosts". I didn't even know how I did it. Anyway I didn't speak english at that time, so when the game made start again I didn't know why so I said "fuck this shit" and stopped. It was a very frustrating time for my as a kid.
UUUUU TAS CAGAO A SABIA K NO SABES DE VIDEOJUEGOS IDIOTA . CONTRA 3 MAS DIFICIL K SUPER GOS AND GOULS . IMCREIBLE TU FALTA DECONOCIMIENTO. SE MAS DECENTE EN ACER TOPS CARAJO.
I'd have to disagree with the super empire strikes back choice, especially since the first one was much harder. You have no passwords in #1, while in empire you can cheat as much as you want with easy, hard, and normal passwords. I also think The Adventures of Batman and Robin Snes was pretty hard also.
Yo contra 3 was hard but not really i got the hang of it pretty fast including hard mode. even though it was like gritting your teeth just to get past that stupid fucking dragon before the last boss. That being said I can't play some of the easiest 3d games on more advanced systems. It's like my brain strictly works 2D (for the most part).
Zombies ate my neighbors isn't hard but its sequel ghoul Patrol is. U.N. Squadron. Downtown Nekketsu Shodai is difficult. Castlevania is not difficult. Being bad at a game and a game actually being hard are two different things.
Its like when you stated that super Mario bros for nes was difficult which is false. There are tons of games more extremely difficult then the games you've listed. Kinda reminds me of screwattack. Going for a popular topic, while using a popular subject and making a conclusion to something without actually doing any research. There are so many games that are difficult. But hey in the end it is still just a opinion.
