Tigran Hamasyan - What The Waves Brought (Tutorial)

113 ratings | 7148 views
Hey! This is a tutorial on Tigran Hamasyans composition "What The Waves Brought", which appears on his solo album "A fable". First it's played in tempo. Then at 2:25 it's slowed down by 50% in order for you to see better what is played! Red colour is left hand, purple is right hand. The notes in the left hand may not be accurate, it varies from time to time. Sometimes you might add a 3rd, 5th, 6th, octave or maybe a 9th to the chords. The important thing is that the bass line remains the same. One can learn much from this artist. Help me share the knowledge! You can contact me on Facebook if you want the midi files! Sheers.

I just want to notify you that though this tutorial is really great, the section of the song here starting at 5:47 must have had something go wrong in the "adaption" of the midi data because it comes out as an odd meter, like a 7 or something, but in Tigrans recording on the album it is a very clear 3/4 or 6/8 feel. Everything I have learned up until that point though has been amazing thank you for your help :)

+Ludwig Störholt Very impressive on his end.... haha okay thank you! By the way I listened to your passacaglia in g minor, very beautiful!

+natalieahearnmedium Great, thanks for feedback! That is because he plays 7 notes in between, and it sounds more like 7 because it is slowed down. So if you learn the notes and then play it faster, you can make it to 3 or 4 or what you think the feel is. The important thing is the melody.

+Ludwig Störholt it's amazing! thank you for sharing this! I'm trying to learn some of Tigran's songs myself; is there any chance I would be able to get a copy of that midi file? It would be extraordinarily helpful!
Ludwig Störholt (2 years ago)
+Ryan Lampertz I'm glad you like it! First I wrote it down in Sibelius (notation software), then I converted the Sib-file to Midi, and played it in Synthesia.

Thank you so much Ludwig, this is awesome ! If you plan to cover other songs from Tigran, can I (selfishly) suggest "Leaving Paris" ? :-) Cheers !

Thank you so much dude! I also enjoyed your Vardavar lesson but I've been playing for only two weeks now and the left hand chords there are a bit too much at times. Sad thing your video ends when the insane solo usually begins :D

Slowed down at 2:25 !
