With the announcement of Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let's Go Eevee, it's becoming more apparent the direction Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are taking with the series. They want to appease the Generation 1 crowd, and give the Pokémon Go users a reason to want a Nintendo Switch. The Pokémon franchise is already so big, this latest move can only lead to astronomical numbers.

butt touch (づ￣ ³￣)づ (___)___)
I love Pokemon Go but it just drains the battery way to badly for a device I need to use for a million other things like GPS, bank account status like you said, stupid apps & games, texting, calls, etc. I'm excited for both Let's Go & the new game next year
U will get used to all the new things next year's Pokemon core game (; trust me I played every generation I literally own every Pokemon core game it's not that hard (: maybe u need a few months but trust me it's worth it all couse u will see so much cool new stuff where u will gonna think damn that's heavy
I'm skeptical. There's a middle ground of buyers here, tons of young teenagers or even older fans who don't follow this sort of news daily, they just get the occasional word. My brother played ORAS and skipped S/M, though he considered getting it. The negative press from the core base, even if a lot of them still might get it, will influence the many on the fringe who aren't hardcore fans, but still have a good interest. I also don't think these games will succeed in pulling in a huge casual audience. Most of those 60 million active users aren't crazy about Pokemon Go, it's just something to do, and the ones who are crazy about it are crazy about the specific mechanics that won't apply to the Switch game. Casual Pokemon Go players aren't going to drop 360 bucks for a Switch and the new game, the whales care about the dominating other players IRL aspect.
I love Gen 1, I just overplayed it probably beat Red x3, Blue x2, Yellow x3, Fire Redx1, Leaf Green x2.
Gen 2 was the ultimate. Basically I get gen 2 + a gen 1 map experience. Probably beat Silver x4 😂, Gold x2 Platinum x1. Soul Silver x2, I think I played Heart Gold x1.
Sapphire x1, Ruby x1, Emerald x3or4 at least. I know my bag got stolen so I had to replace my original GBA with Leaf Green and Emerald and my GB SP at some point.
Gen 3 was cool especially Emerald.
I heard good things about the Diamond version, didnt like the original Black and White stopped half way,
I heard Black and White2 was better.
Got bored of X and Y I stopped near the end and then beat it as the S and M hype came in.
Fell in love with Sun and Moons fresh take on pokemon. The Gym badge chase got boring although I love training Pokemon and exp EVs move strategies. Not hardcore hardcore combos but enough to make me a decent online competitor around gen 3 to 5.
My main gripe with the games-and this should be OBVIOUS-is pretty much the good old "IT'S THE SAME GAME EVERY TIME!" - i'm sorry, but wtf do you want me to say? IT'S TOO REPETITIVE. You could say all gens are "remakes" in a sense, because of sluggish/stale/repetitive gameplay. Get over it!
I'm looking forward to seeing how successful these new games will be, due to the main issue for the player base of Pokemon go of whom are thinking of progressing to this game: Accessibility. The Pokemon go player base (in my opinion) was formed upon the platform it was released - smartphones. According to statistica, 2.5 billion people own a smartphone and with a freemium app such as pokemon go consequently having a potential player to everyone that has an internet connection or mobile data, it is easy to see just why it became so popular. However, the blockade of many is the requirement to spend just over 280 quid (I'm British) just for the console alone. This locks out a large portion of the playerbase who played it just because it was convenient and requirement (theoretically) no investment. This will likely cause a 'filtering' effect onto the target audience and will likely bring through normal fans of the core rpg series and a slight increment through new dedicated fans directly migrating from pokemon go. Overall I believe that this game will sell significant number but I do have my doubts about the 'mindblowingly high' number of sales a lot of people are proposing, similar to those suggesting the series will see a falter in its numbers. (I thought I was just going to write a sentence lmao)
Pokemon on Switch should be only ONE "Pokemon Let's Go" less the Eevee and Pikachu. Then another ONE game in 2019. I don't like Pokemon Go integration or the Pokemon Go game in general, but do see the merits of the integration.
The reason you're a genwunner is because you done fucked up your ordering. Gen1 was great but so was gen2-4 (and even 5)... You just skipped all that good stuff and dived in to the point in Pokemon where things started to really get fucked up (megas, Z moves, hand holding etc).
Tbh as a somewhat hardcore pokemon gamer, im more worried about how pokebank will be integrated into lets go than whether pokemon go is popular or whatever... also worried about how cp in pokemon go will be integrated into lets go
You should have also mentioned the Pokémon main series games in the last 4-5 years. Pokémon has been a huge success on the 3DS (after relatively underperforming on the DS). Pokémon Go was launched just a few months before Pokémon Sun and Moon. The extreme popularity of the app pushed the game sales even further. 10 million game copies were shipped worldwide for the launch.
PS: Another fun fact - the total game sales of Pokémon for the 3DS is over 50 million. That's a large number in an era when handhelds are supposedly dying. To make a comparison total PS Vita game sales (all their games) is 68 million.
I felt like I was the only one that loved the first gen but didnt like the rest. I felt like they nailed the first gen characters and only really needed to slowly add a couple new evolutions and maybe some new faces from time to time. I never felt the same connection with all the new lists every year, it seemed like that characters became very childish. I never played the new pokemon games but would replay red, blue, green, yellow etc over and over. Im hoping the next gen version will have more mature looking pokemon.
If GO came out this year, with all it's current features, then the strategy of using Let's Go to drag in a bunch of old fans would throw switch sales up the roof, and make the fanbase implode with people not knowing the difference between a pokemon and digimon because 6 OTHER GENERATIONS CAME OUT IN THE PAST 20 YEARS BRUH.
Also Let's go would probably be sold out.
I'm buying a switch. But I will never upgrade my phone. Too many distractions in my life already. So fuck Pokemon Go! And fuck these games they're bringing out where you have to use Pokemon Go with it!
What would've happened if in an alternate timeline, the Pokemon franchise have been around since Feb. 27, 1986, if "Red & Green Versions(1996)" first came out 10 years earlier worldwide as launched titles for the original Game Boy(Apr. 21, 1989, if it came out 3 years earlier)? And if the GameBoy was horizontal, had a gender-neutral name(and aimed towards both genders), was as advanced as the NES, had fewer limitations, a backlight, full-colored screen, if the screen was wider, and uses rechargeable batteries?
I think you are really hitting some good points.
I plan on getting a Switch next month and the fact that they are releasing Let’s Go got me to open up Pokemon Go again. I was surprised to see people are actually still playing in my area.
I really don't know about this one. It could in fact be the perfect storm, as you say, but I think it could also easily flop. A lot of pokemon go players aren't invested enough in video games to put money into a switch. On the other hand, many main series fans are complaining about all the new changes that were made to make the game similar to go, and I imagine many won't pick this one up because of that. Personally, my prediction is that it will do well in sales simply thanks to nostalgia, but only time will tell.
6:41 those "hardcore fans" thinking this are fucking idiots. a new gen of pokemon main title games come out every 3 years, at least. i don't how the hell they thought 8th gen would be coming after barely two years in 2018. 2019 obviously this will happen even before it was announced via PKMN twitter to quell the rage of those fools.
1996 - red/green/blue (1st gen)
1999 - gold/silver (2nd gen)
2002 - ruby/sapphire (3rd gen)
2006 - diamond/pearl (4th gen)
2010 - black/white (5th gen)
2013 - X&Y (6th gen)
2016 - sun/moon (7th gen)
I won't be getting PKMN Let's Go simply because its another kanto remake but for Yellow Version this time. We've already visited Kanto in four generations with it being remade three times, I'm beyond sick of it by now after two decades with franchise. if you'd wonder four times, when did that happen? well...
red/blue/green/yellow 1st time
gold/silver/crystal 2nd time (first kanto remake)
firered/leafgreen 3rd time (second kanto remake)
heartgold/soulsilver 4th time (third kanto remake)
let's go pikachu/eevee will be the 5th time (fourth kanto remake)
I'm all kanto'd out so yeah, hard pass on Let's Go switch games, but have fun genwunners and those getting back into the franchise
“The Pokemon fans complaining about Let’s Go are going to get the game anyway. Who are you kidding?” This made me chuckle so hard. I’m complaining about how easy Let’s Go is but know that I will get it anyway when it comes out. Nostalgia is a heavy hitter
Due to chronic illness I missed the big Pokemon Go phase. Later when my illness went into remission, I started playing Pokemon Go. After spending 4+ years stuck in the house, this game was exactly what I needed. It got me outside again and I met new people. I have found more parks in may are in the past year than the entire time I lived here prior. The game is for sure not dead. I have a group of 40+ people that I see regularly, some of them I see daily for raids. Pokemon Go is alive and well I can assure you. I already own a Switch, I can tell you that many people in my raid group will be buying a Switch and both Pokemon Let's Go games. I also have some friends that haven't played Pokemon Go since launch who are now going back to Pokemon Go to try and catch some good Gen 1 Pokemon for Let's Go. This shit is working out exactly like Nintendo and associates have planned.
Just like you mentioned: I'm a hardcore player that's slightly bummed about the roster, but who am i kidding, I'm going to play it anyway.
But seriously, at the very least allow the Pokemon that come from Gen I that evolve in other games to evolve! Why would you let Golbat stay a Golbat and not achieve it's full potential?
Genwunner is a derogatory term because they prefer nostalgia over thinking about new things. Generation 1 and the remakes are so janky but ya'll still prefer to play those.
again: I'm buying these games, but there's something off when one of the mascots can evolve into one of eight pokemon but you can only get the original 3. You're missing out on over half its potential!
A few days ago, I saw a woman in her 50s playing Pokémon Go on the bus. That's in the South Wapes Valleys too, which is really quite surprising. I started playing again about a week before the Let's Go announcement, and I've been enjoying it all over again.
