I love games that allow you to free-roam and this list has by far my favorite open world video games to date.
All of these open world games I've played and everyone has something different to offer.
There's some of the greatest, some of the hidden and a few games you may have forgotten about, either way I did my best to add what I thought was the best open worlds in 2016.
If you have any amazing open world games you'd like to add to the list please use the comments down below.

Did you anyone here get one of my FREE games yesterday? I sent out an email via my mailing list and gave away 15 free games. I received a few thank you's which was really appreciated and of course the odd 'F you., you are a scammer'. It really isn't a scam, I have just bought a ton of game codes and I'm sending them out on my mailing list and whoever claims them first, gets a free game! if you want to join just sign up here and keep an eye on your inbox - https://gift.101nootropics.com/cheap-game-guide/
Mad Max is underrated. honestly the only thing that hurt it was the sandbox gameplay that messed with the story. the dialogue and characters and story in mad max was so impressive..especially by video game standards. I even feel like they wasted mad max lore on this game and I really think it deserves a movie. It did feel like something was missing a bit though. Because I had to read character bios to make sense of stuff. They probably did the best they could do with the time and money
Mad max is fun, the story is nice, but the map is hardly noteworthy. It's like, ubisoft quality open world. I mean yes it's detailed and littered with stuff to do, but it's just that - stuff to do. Not interesting stuff. Other than doing missions it's not all that interesting. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but in my personal opinion it's just not "best open world" quality
Thanks for your comment man. It's nice to have some feedback like this as I personally added them because that's what kind of category I put them in but some people just would rather send me awful comments instead of just accepting my personal preference :')
Bro, you have tons of potential. Put LOTS of time into editing if you can. I noticed you put the names for the first 2 titles but not for any other games. Also near the end it felt kinda rushed. In no way am i hating because i dropped a like and a sub but a youtuber with lots of potential like you i really dont want to see you fail. I try upload weekly and re started last week but i needed an extra 2 days to edit so i took it. If you do that you could do amazing. Hope you succeed bro. Good luck!
Are there any open world games that don't have language I don't use (i.e. foul language) and don't require you to kill someone to finish the missions in the game? (I already have Minecraft but its not very graphics oriented if you get what I mean)
Assasin's creed...My favourite game series. I have almost all the additions of it like librations HD, Black Flag , Assasin's creed 3 , Brotherhood and I have ordered the rouge edition it will be arrive in some days!
I don't get all you FC 3 fanatics :P, sure it was a great game, interesting story, good gameplay overall, but it was trumped in every single way by FC 4 in my opinion. I mean people are all over FC 3 because Vaas was an iconic villain indeed, but when it boiled down to it, he didn't play a very big role in the game it would seem, and he kinda just faded away into nothing, no fireworks, no nothing, he just was, then he wasn't . Which lead to an ending that was like, the fuck? not very satisfying ending to FC 3 imo. But when i played FC 4, i actually had real life emotions toward the villain after having completed the game, i sat for a few days unsure of myself and what i had done. Now that's something.
That was a great review! I've looked at like a half dozen reviews tonight trying to look for something new to try and Red Dead Redemption looks great..maybe the next game I get. Thanks for sharing your info! :) It looks like this thread is too old now for getting a free game code..let me know how to send my email or where to check that out for the next one?.....oh, well I'm off to check out your blog now. :)

It's so difficult to make decisions on buying games in this genre.I once took a chance on Drakan:The Ancients Gates for PS2 and it was the best 30 bucks I had ever spent in my life! The story, the artwork, the graphics, the characters and the natural feeling between the controller and the onscreen character...was unlike like anything I've experienced. That game is the very reason I still have my PS2 to this day.Unfortunately,I have never found a game in this genre that matched that game and that was 15 years ago.
Just Cause 3 was freaking amazing. I legit quit horizon zero dawn right after playing just cause for 10 minutes. So much to do. And the gameplay is so well thought. Probably one of the best open world games gameplay wise. Story was pretty shit though. GTA V and witcher 3 are the best all rounders for open world.
i think the list is good i mean it... it actually good... and i am not saying you should have added what others told but jsut cause i want here some of mine list....
ohm infamous 2 yeah i still play it... great game awesome story just love it also the whole idea of you creating your level with any thing you want... is crazy
