Do all new games really need to be $59.99, regardless of the amount of work put into it? Eventually, I can just rent or buy the game at less than $60.
samljer (10 months ago)
I havent bought a game at full price in a few years now, i refuse. No game has been worth the $60 yet (with the exception of a small few) which i STILL waited on price drops for. I refuse to pay marketing prices.

Ok I can't be the only person who noticed that you're wearing that same shirt in the "Why Do Video Games Cost So Much Today?" video you referenced at the beginning. As well as the "Where Assassin's Creed Went Wrong" video you hinted at, but hadn't even made yet.

It's £50 in the UK

That's why I normally stick to indie games.

cs go is not a AAA game lol

battlefield hardline campaign wasn't garbage filler, it was the best battlefield campaign
Anthony Harris (2 years ago)
They might as well make games a little cheaper if they're gonna end up screwing you and charging you $40 or more for a "season pass" to get the complete game anyways
Taryawhile (3 years ago)
I feel like the Mario Maker game doesn't need to be $60. It doesn't look like a full game to me and $60 is too much. $30 I could do, but 60? I'm going to wait a little bit.
WULFF DEN (3 years ago)
+Taryawhile you're right, it's only worth it if you're going to be using it to it's full potential. It will be a platform for creating and downloading limitless levels. If you don't see the worth, wait it out. Mario stuff does tend to hold it's value tho.

They should be at 40$ its not worth it most games that come out are reskined games or just plain broken or will take parts of the game & call it "DLC" /SEASON pass like nobody should have to pay for that ever unless its a edititon for the game yeah then you should have to pay more

+Jet Diiamond You should watch the related video! It helps get an understanding WHY games are 60$ https://youtu.be/EF48gEoyN5I

dice does not make hardline

Games wont ever go 100% digital only. People want their physical shit. Paying for nothing is stupid cause all you do with digital games is you pay for a key to the game.
CthulhuChow (3 years ago)
i wouldnt mind giving $60 for a COMPLETE game, but all of the dlc games have tacked on to them has made me give up on gaming in general.

This channel deserves more recognition.

What do you guys think of Bloodborne?
Pandroop (3 years ago)
Ahh thats a shame, its a very good game, probably the best PS4 game i've played yet. Then again im a Souls veteran so i might be a little biased.  Yeah this game will definitely frustrate newcomers but the sense of satisfaction you get from defeating a boss is something you wont feel in any other game. The game doesn't spoon feed you the story and if you want to know about the history and lore you've got to look into it yourself via looking at the item description and paying close attention to the surroundings. I do hope you guys give it a go one day but i can see why people are put off by it.  Thanks for the reply back!

+PrimeRai Seems interesting. We're not that into RPG's tho so it's not our style. I would get WAY too frustrated
Cal Ayy (3 years ago)
He is so right! Everything he said makes sense and I knew also that Ubisoft was doing the same thing with the Assassins creed franchise.

My fear is once publishers start releasing at a lower price point more and more they will slowly mess with applying freemium gaming techniques to console gaming and that it doesn't belong. It's bad enough with day 1 dlc and dlc in general. Hell I get mad when I spend real money on a game for my phone and it had freemium purchases in it.
Jim McCray (3 years ago)
too late baby. they could charge $200 a game and they'll still be tacking on shitty DLC just to give you a proper ending.
Nandos_33 (3 years ago)
You guys think you've got it bad, down here in Aus we have to spend $80 - $100 :(

I am really enjoying Hardline at the moment, but I didn't pay full price. I bought it at Target on sale. At EB games it costs $100 brand new, at Target it was only $69. I would have never bought it from EB games for that much.
Jason Todd (3 years ago)
Games are expensive to make now they need to make back the money. Games use to be more expensive back in the day.
Jason Todd (3 years ago)
You were wearing the same shirt.
ScreenHackTV (3 years ago)
In Australia, games release at $99.99
Dom R (3 years ago)
+DA2THFA1RY Ya I wouldn't either. I don't think I've ever played a game that I can say would be worth $100.
Pickle Rick (3 years ago)
It is true, but the good thing is if you leave it a week or two, you can get it from Target for $69.... I cheat the system like that all the time, I'm not paying $100 for a game!
Dom R (3 years ago)
+ScreenHackTV Man if that's true, I feel sorry of you guys.
WolfieRabz (3 years ago)
well here in canada they're 69.99 now

I agree, there needs to be a widespread flexibility on pricing. The trouble is, the publishers have shareholders to answer to and so are scared of taking risks. $60 for one game does not always equal the same value for another. It needs to be subjective on a case by case basis. No hard and fast rules such as deductions for missing features. Just a price that's fair for the content provided. I think DLC strategy should have an impact on price too. Free to play business models such as xp boosts or early unlocks don't belong in a full price game. If I don't think a game is worth $60, I will simply wait til it's a price that I agree with. My value will be different to others

Why do digital games cost so much though. A disc is made from material goods in a factory and shipped to a store then sold to a customer. A digital game goes straight to the online store then to a customer. There is no shipping no buying from companies that make the disc and cover materials and no workers outside the people actually involved in the game production to pay. A digital game should cost less since the company would not have to pay as many people
morning morality (3 years ago)
True but if these companies make a stand now then they could make more money. Say rockstar made gta6 and sold it for €40 online GameStop can refuse to sell the game but rockstar would still make tons of money online Yer it would hurt their business but not nearly as much as GameStop would get hurt. GS would make nothing from this and would just promote online buying more. Yer at first companies would get hurt but game shops can't afford to lose customers with big title like GTA or call of duty and so on they can't afford to not sell these games
MrLCGO (3 years ago)
Because if they released them at lower point in the beginning, mortar and brick store get pissed off and with not distributing the companies next game.
