Just an FYI for those of you that purchased any of these games before they went "Forever".
If you purchased say... Phantasy Star II, you can reclaim your purchase for free.
Another detail worth mentioning... once you patch your original Install of Phantasy Star II, you will lose all your save games.
Which sucks for me, because I had the end game battle save and lost it.
hi sorry for the constant meseges can you remember game geeny where you add the cartridge then the game you want to play and it will bring up like a mod menu with cheats etc would this work in emulator form on the raspberry pi . or how to make a mod menu inside retropie I've just been thinking there from this video I've already commented sorry just a idea that had popped like a light bulb lol
back before i first saw your videos i was using my android tablet as a emulator with a ps3 controller until i found the mother raspberry pi hear then it all kicked off 💙. there ain't no party like a Retropie P.A.R.T.Y😎
Maybe I am just too stupid, but there seem to be a big big problem with Phantasy Star II - maybe also with the other games, I don´t know, because I don´t own them: When I was trying to save my progess, it tells me, that I have to be connected to a game center (which was cancelled since IOS10), which won´t work. So you can play this game, but it´s not possible to save. Great work @Sega - money for nothing.
But does it not require jailbreaking the iphone or do some clever tricks & risks and go to safari to download some software to run emulators???
Yeah i hate touch screen controls for retro games, you really need a controller for it, aslong you are sure it matches your taste and being compatible with blue touch of your iphone as each blue touch system has their own range of frequency's, so you not gonne be alway's sure that it's will work anyway.
Gotta get Phantasy Star 2. I'd love to see the other PS games as well as Shining in the Darkness, Shining force 1 and 2. Those games could be played on a touch screen fairly easy so you don't have to take a controller.
+Patrick Lange They showed many games on the trailer that have yet to be released under the Forever program. Crazy Taxi is one of them. They'll eventually release it under the Sega Forever program (Their plan is to release every SEGA game from every SEGA console generation), but not yet. Right now, the game is still not part of the program. Same thing with Sonic CD. They showed it in the trailer/website, and it has released before, they just haven't released it as a SEGA Forever title yet.
emulation has been around for ages and the roms readily avalable. although i commend sega for finding a way to generate revenue at the same time as allowing a free to play back catalogue for pussys that wont emulate. i cant help thinking that their efforts could be better spent creating new content for play and app stores. just imagine a streets of rage 4 follow on years after 3 was released for download on an app store. a new game would mean theres no emulated version avalable so sega could make an initial mint. i know sega no longer manufactures consolee but thats no reason to keep cashing in on past glories when they could easily just create new games.
any quality difference with an emulator?
They published updated versions not to long ago that were done by Christian Whitehead, sonic 1&2 were updated to today's standards however sonic cd was a step back (you couldn't remove the controller overlay unlike sonic 1&2)
Are these versions updated too?
thabos8 so. The Christian whitehead conversions of the 1st 2 sonic games are brilliant. Sonic one in here is the Christian whitehead version so it plays nice. However the other games don't play well. Choppy frame rates. Sounds are "crunchy" and seem to be connected to the frame rate. The on screen controls can't be adjusted so you're stuck with them where they are.
I was so looking forward to these and I'm pretty disappointed. The sonic games and streets of rage games play beautifully but this new batch of games doesn't play well at all.
I'm playing them on an iPhone 7 plus so there's no reason they shouldn't perform well.
I Personally Would Much Rather Use An Emulator And Customize Filters Etc. But Am Still Happy Sega Will Get Some Spending $$$, Why You Ask? Who Knows, They May Start Getting Into The Mobile Game Industry With Games, Gamepads, And Maybe Even A Console? No. Either Way This Is Epic. #SEGAFANBOYSLIVE
Shining Force II. I owned it with my Sega Nomad, emulated it on every device I ever owned, but have never passed the freaking thing. I don't know if I'll play it on my phone though, my Pandora plays it just fine, no reason to play it on anything else. I'd like to see it released just because it is such a great game and more people need to be exposed to it.
If Nintendo is smart, they'll do the exact same thing because honestly, who wouldn't want to play? Super Mario brothers on Android final fantasy Metroid and Donkey Kong without having to use an emulator and hey like you said they'd make a ton of money in ad revenue, we don't need new games what we need is a nostalgia. What we want is nostalgia. And now that we can play these games on things like a raspberry pi zero, if Nintendo wants to keep their money and stop piracy, this is the best way. Hopefully, Nintendo takes a cue from Sega.
Mostly the RPG's and Turn Based strategies... because I don't want to play games that are only enjoyable if I have a gamepad strapped to it... sorry, not gonna happen. They make way better devices for this.
So I would say my short list is:
Phantasy Star 1 (SMS), 2, 3, 4 (Genesis)
Shining Force 1, 2 (Genesis), 3 (Saturn)
Sword of Vermillion (Genesis)
Dragon Force (Saturn)
Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn)
Shining in the Darkness
Check this out, ETA... Apparently the emulator is running on Unity as there was a kerfuffle between SEGA and Retroach:
