Marvel announced their latest line wide relaunch, A Fresh Start (seriously). Will this be the trick to get Marvel back on top? If history has taught us anything, the answer is no.

butt touch (づ￣ ³￣)づ (___)___)
As usual, if it does what its promising, its what we've been waiting for. But when has that actually happened? The first Marvel NOW probably came closest to achieving this, but even that was hit or miss. I've pretty much just accepted that I'm going to get occaisional bursts of great material surrounded by linewide mediocrity, and that's just sad. I love these characters, I won't stop reading, but great material should be the norm, and not the rare exception as it has been.
Glad you mentioned high prices...so sick of picking up my list every week only to find a bunch of 4.99 books...hell over a in my estimate 14 month period, I got slammed with no less than 4 Deadpool books coming in at 9.99! with lackluster backup stories tacked onto a single issue, one of which was even clearly meant to run in individual books as .1 (point one) titles. I don't read much DC but the stuff I do very rarely comes in over the standard 2.99-3.99 pricing.
Its just another Marvel Now - shake up the creative teams. Why it needs to be a renumbering less than a year after Legacy and the big deal made over returning to Legacy numbering is ridiculous...unfortunately pretty much expected at this point. And hey, Marvel Now invigorated a lot of titles, but you can shake up the creative teams without making it an "initiative" and turning off the fans when it happens again every single year. Marvel is my company, I will always read because I love the characters, but enough with this stuff. Just keep the series rolling and announce new creative teams when they happen. (New team! New direction!)...without the new #1s and press push.
SCAM? , I like that word1 Marvel is a Scam! Fake Scam poster to give the illusion that their bringing back the original characters? "No Kids next door" will take the mantel of our favorite Characters ,How many "Reboots" can a Reader take. "Fanboys" can take anything up their butt, takes very little to entertain them ? MARVEL is a sinking ship, let them sink! They plan to kill off the INHUMANS, Change the X-Men groups Again, place back the Avengers line up with ? Bring back the Fantastic four for what?? By By Miles No-more Spider-Man there isn't enough room in this universe for two Spider-Men! Marvel keeps tricking Readers/Fanboys into spending money on their products "and they're products are Junk!
That run is almost a consensus as the best actual Marvel issue. Jason Aaron is, with no doubt one of the best actual writers. His work with Thor is amazing! If you wanna blame SJW stuff.. .OK but Jane Foster as Thor is dope!
Here are some other good stuffs of ANAD (they were stained due bad issues)
- Tom King's Vision;
- Ta-Nehisi Coates's Black Panther;
- Charles Soule's Daredevil;
- Jeff Lemire's Moon Knight;
- Jeff Lemire's Old Man Logan;
- Jeff Lemire's Hawkeye;
- Jeff Lemire's Thanos;
- Becky Cloona's Punisher;
- Jason Aaron's Unworthy Thor;
- Jason Aaron's Jane's Thor;
- Jason Aaron's Doctor Strange;
- G. Willow Wilson's Ms Marvel.
Honestly, it's the creative teams being lazy more than anything. Say what you will about Miles, but Bendis did nothing with the character for five years. Bendis put no effort into making better Miles stories, just constant tie ins and lazy unremarkable beats. And I'm sure Zany Jason Aaron will just try to compensate with a story about Marshmallow Man from Saturn turning Texas into a chainsaw to cut the Earth in Half. The problem with Marvel is that they don't know what fans want and shit on any minor character that gains traction. Look at how they completely derailed Avengers Academy with Arena and killed off the characters that were growing fanbases. Oh, but I'm sorry, we gotta see Cap fight Hydra again, or Thor argue with Loki again and all that tedious shit. I mean, have we ever had an Avengers run where they don't go back to the origins of the Avengers and fight Kang?
I'm just waiting for my favorite characters to pop up again, but everyone else wants to overhype the same shitty ones that are always in use.
I'm hoping that they really kind of wipe it clean and basically retcon the entire three years.
I mean, Jane Foster as Thor as a concept was good, but the fact that she was so bland and that they constantly tried to push her as 'better than Thor' was weird, especially considering the fact that your pitting someone who hasn't got much training up against someone who's been training their entire life for it.
Mrs. Marvel was laughable, I mean, there's a literal storyline where she's going around illegally arresting people and putting them in a secret prison for Captain Marvel like literal Nazis. She was very much written as an unlikable character, people dont act like her.
And dont get me started on the destruction of Ice Man's character. And it's not that I dont want him to be gay, it just doesn't make any sense, due to all those years of us literally reading his thought bubbles and knowing he was attracted to women. If they said he was Bi, that I can believe, maybe have him experiment due to how many times relationships with women dont work out. But the fact that they made him this stereotypicaly flamboyant, rude, borderline psychopathic asshole was what really pulled the straw. You know you are a terrible writer when your 'reveal' could alternately be interpreted as Grey, a powerful psychic, literally turning Iceman Gay with her mental powers for her own twisted goals.
Oh, and don't forget all the other canceled comics like GwenPool and America.
Now, hopefully they get better writers on these characters, because seriously, when taken out of the whole 'comics' thing and just taking their personality and putting them into normal people, a majority of them are absolute assholes or just terrible people.
A fresh start needs to be just that A FRESH START! Another relaunch is not what Marvel needs. Marvel needs a total reboot! Start from scratch! It works for DC who does it every few years. Try something else Marvel!
To quote what you said: WRONG.
1) I want you to pinpoint in my revious post where I said reboot. I said relaunch. Never reboot.
2)... yeah, that's about it.
As for Legacy, you don't call a linewide renumbering of your books as part of trying to rope in an audience a relaunch? Then what do you call it?
1) The term reboot is used when the whole (most) universe is retconned, just like Crisis on Infinite Earths. Calling relaunch reboot is just wrong.
2) Legacy DID NOT RESTARTED THE NUMBERING!! THAT WAS THEY MOTE FOR GOD SAKE!!!
EVERY YEAR hum? So All New All Different started in June 2015 and lasted until September 2017. Tell me. How did TWO YEARS AND THREE MONTHS TURNED INTO A YEAR IN YOUR IMAGINARY WORLD?
Plus, relaunch is not a reboot.
Marvel is trying to pander to a bunch of know nothing SJW kids with all of their diversity and inclusion bullshit. I stopped buying it years ago. I'm sure Marvel still has the same libtards writers so nothing is changing.
This is just another attempt to fool people by them. People hate the diverse characters because it’s about pushing an agenda, not just introducing diversity. Identity politics ruins good comics - and good cultures, for that matter.
There was once a time when Marvel was OP, stories driven with dark, deep and emotional events, I especially remember that time where sentry ripped ares apart, their comics was so fucking good, better than DC today, but that was along long time ago.. marvel is exceptional on the big screen but in the graphic novel, they suck more than my girlfriend
Yeah same I dont buy it. But Marvel needs a reboot so bad. Like start from zero and rebuild the universe. Its again gonna be their stupid relaunches with the shit ton of number ones and they'll cancel some of the good books. If you're gonna cancel books then hard reboot things not do that soft shit. Marvel loves that new numbers ones money and thats why they do it every year and have made it a fucking norm
I think after the first Avengers movie, Marvel Cómics did a lot of mistakes, because the movies brought new buyers of comics, people who never read them, and they hoped to see the characters from those movies in this comics, if they were going to do changes to 616, they should have been done after the two Infinity War movies, when the MCU hype is going to fall, and the new readers would accept those changes.
I used to buy only marvel. Every new release of spiderman i had to go and buy. But lately its so bad i simply forgot to but it for two or three months! And started buying flash and supergirl since rebirth arrived here in brazil
Thank you! I hate how everyone is blaming diversity for the reason for marvel underperforming. Like personally now that slott is of Spiderman and that there's a new editor and chief I just want one more day retconned
"The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything"
Of course in this case, the things we have to do is just Not to buy anymore Marvel comics, not as easy as you think it is ;p
To be fair, it's not on a blank screen. YouTube allows you to add a "Subscribe" button in your last 20 seconds as well as links to other videos. It's a simple call to action used by pretty much every YouTuber I know.
I think sexist is just slapping the word 'woman' or 'girl' on a rule-43 character of someone that exists.
Better to create new original characters than to have a rule-43 that will just always be compared to their male counterpart.
Maybe they just need to try harder.
Brookes Eggleston - Character Design Forge I’d argue that Supergirl, Batgirl, and Miss Martian qualify as they’re all very different from the previously existing character that they’re associated with.
For sure. I had a friend claim that DC has more female characters, and listed all the counterparts... and with your Zatana’s and Vixens, he mentioned batgirl, supergirl, miss martian... and while those characters are great, it’s just not enough to tick those boxes. A character that’s their own thing, not in someone else’s shadow, is just a much stronger representation.
I'm sick of Marvel Comics. What they did to the X-Men, Fantastic Four, etc is unacceptable. The Lazy gender/race bending did nothing good for comics; all it did do was put fans at each other's throats, and crap on years of tradition. Characters have stood the test of time as is with only changes being made to them was to adapt them and their stories to the current times. I Love my characters as is!! Jean Grey is a woman. Black Panther is black. Gambit is Cajun PERIOD! Create *NEW* characters to represent people of all kinds and create new stories. Stop being lazy and inept Marvel! Stop shitting on decades of cannon for a few quick, cheap sales that ultimately hurts you and your fans more than the quick fix of cash does good.
