Those criticising "Ironside" for casting a non-disabled actor.
Guess what? The original "Ironside" actor, Raymond Burr, wasn't disabled either. Yet it didn't bother people then.
Political correctness can go to hell.
As a woman with visual impairments kindly STOP telling us what we should be "offended" by. I have nothing against Charlie Cox as Daredevil and I don't like when you tell me I should be "offended" if an able bodied person plays a disabled character. It's called acting. If we keep restricting roles to only people who fit a certain criteria, many films will never get made. I hated the stupid complaints about a "real" mute should have been in Shape of water and I hate it now. Stop- telling- us- what- to- hate. YOU offend us when you do that!
Let's not forget that the set for Eldorado, just outside Marbella in Spain, remains a ghost town today, decay and all, although it has recently been used for paintballing. Even with Brexit approaching, I doubt the show will be revived by the BBC despite calls.
So Ironside got cancelled because a non disable actor played a disable character? Did the actor from 1970's Ironside had that same problem?
Honestly, it got cancelled because he was Black!
And now Scarlett Johansson turned down a role of a shitty transgender mob boss because the LGBQTWhatsoever shitty community is boycotting this fucking matter.
Do you see what the fuck is going on here, folks? What's next? The MeToo movement stops actresses to do nude scenes?
You let Hollywood became more suck on making movies than seeing them. And Bankruptcy will follow after this change.
What a fucking waste!
“Ironside” was a case of black-washing a character that has been around for 50 years, but that never gets called out by the left, such as, at WatchMojo. This is why the SJW crowd just isn’t taken seriously by the vast majority of normal human beings, because they’re about as inconsistent in their logic as one could be. The left bitches all the time about whitewashing, disabled-washing apparently, and far more. But when there has been a character who is white for decades, if not centuries, or even millennia in some cases, it’s OK to change their race from white without the left complaining. Whites on the left really, really hate themselves - though, it’s pretty fucking obvious that these are the most miserable people on the planet.
Edward Reeves: I’ll do something that’s quite rare for the internet and agree with that last part that you said. I wouldn’t give a shit about any of it. Like you said, an actor should be able to portray someone from a different background - be that ethnicity, race, or whatever. But, as long as the left is going to bitch about every other type of “XXXX-washing“, I’m going to do the same and call them on their hypocrisy.
For some characters, racial change is irrelevant (both white to non-white and non-white to white), but there are some for which their ethnic background has importance. Considering the general lack of non-whites on Tv prior to 1990s, I guess it's understandable some double standards are still involved. As for modern trends, I am dreaded that we are entering the time where actors are often expected to portray only their own experience, making the whole ''acting'' aspect sort of pointless.
Push, Nevada - A drama series where you had a chance to win $1 Million. To quote Wiki...
"Since the series was canceled with a number of episodes un-aired, the remaining clues were given all at once by series star Derek Cecil during a commercial break on Monday Night Football"
Yeah, well, the Raymond Burr version of Ironside was pretty unpleasant at times (Burr was even harder to relate to as Ironside than he ever was as Perry Mason), and, of course, Burr himself wasn't crippled either. So, I always thought THAT criticism about the new show was kind of disingenuous. Bad scripts and bad characterizations, of course, are universal.
The Colbys never worked either, but then it didn't get REALLY stupid until Fake Fallon got captured by a UFO, and the producers forgot about that when the characters returned to Dynasty (which, in Britain, is pronounced to rhyme with Dysentery).
And to the end of his life, Steven Bochco praised Cop Rock. So, what can you do....
Police procedurals do work with music though.
An example is the show "Cold Case", where the flashback scenes to show what lead up to the crime had music playing in the background to reflect the era. This was much better than cops actually singing.
I have only heard my dad curse once in my life. We watched the first episode of Cop Rock and when it was over he looked at me and said "What the 'eff' was that?" I will never forget that show because of that.
