I wish Konami would just sell the rights to these franchises that are obviously never coming back down from their attic. Silent Hill at the very least. SOMEONE wants to produce it, so why not sell it off to Sony and let Kojima curate the series? Titles like Contra and Gradius would fit snug into today's push for challenge-over-quantity games. But I guess Beatmania and Pachinko pay for the Kozuki family's kobe beef steak dinners and deluxe onsen retreats, so the fuck do I know? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As a fan of Silent Hill i must confess, i enjoyed SH4 more then i did SH1 (fyi i finished both games) And yes, i know that "The room" was not supposed to be an SH game initially, doesn't matter - still a good game... p.s. SH2 - is not only the best Silent Hill game, but one of the best games of all time.
At this point, I can't wait for Konami to go bankrupted so other talented game devs can take their popular series and bring them back. I loved the castlevania series before it got turned into your generic anime game. Castlevania Mask of Shadows in my opinion was a nice reboot since it stuck as close as it can to its old school 2D counterpart with its sick classic gothic theme minus its ending and sequel.
I know it is not of Videogames but they are asholes in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, have you seen Link monsters!
At number 2 Yugitubers really have a hard time with Konami!
At number 3 They are also greedy af in Yu-Gi-Oh!.. coming back to Link monsters, it is not just a new mechanic it s a whole change of rules that fucks up a lot of decks, so they force us to buy this Link shit. What you say in (2:40) fits this example.
There are some rumors that some of the higher ups at Konami have ties to the yakuza (Japanese mobsters). Although these have not been proven yet, but I think anyone will be really scared if they learned that their hard-earned cash is funding the criminal activities of the yakuza.
MGSV was filled with so many problems, first with cutting the game into two different ones (and how you don't get the cassette tapes from GZ in TPP) but overall the real shit they did was dropping chapter 3 and then the micro transactions for MGO and FOB, goddamn that stuff pissed me off, with not being able to finish Eli's story and destroying the metal gear again and then how they added a bunch of weapons and items that are only slightly better than the last ones (except the grenade launcher and sniper rifle, those are at least unique) and making them take at least 2 weeks to finish just so they can get more money.
More failings not mentioned here:
They killed In The Groove with a strongarm lawsuit, gained ownership of it, then did nothing with the rights they acquired. They could have integrated elements of ITG into DDR but didn't.
Talking of DDR, they also could have easily made a DDR game for 7th gen systems that allowed players to stack songs from previous games all into one list and sold hundreds of already-charted songs as DLC. Rock Band did it, so there's no reason DDR can't. But they didn't.
They also could have made some easy money contracting some of their original music to Harmonix for Rock Band, but instead they tried to make a no-budget clone of RB and when it failed, they filed a frivolous lawsuit against Harmonix over it.
#1 is what pisses me off the most besides Konami's treatment toward Kojima and his team. I've been a Silent Hill fan since 2005, back when Silent Hill Homecoming was brand new, and I still have most of the games except The Room because I don't have a PS2 anymore, and that was the only Silent Hill game I never truly liked. I was looking forward to a new Silent Hill game, and hearing about Silent Hills cancellation really made my blood boil! And actually, it was Homecoming that got the most hate out of all the Silent Hill games, because of the protagonist being the most combat adept of all the Silent Hill main characters and all that, when a survival horror genre game is supposed to be about feeling nearly helpless or completely helpless, something Shattered Memories tried to do, having you run and hide from the monsters all the time with no combat abilities, but it didn't win over all Silent Hill fans who hated Homecoming's gameplay. I don't recall Downpour getting bashed by fans so much, I liked that game as much as Homecoming To me, it is The Room that is not a true Silent Hill game. The only Silent Hill games that deserve all the hate in my opinion is The Room and Book of Memories. That was my 2nd PS Vita game and I didn't like it.
This is not normal for Japanese companies, but I see Sony going the same way. All the electronics Sony are releasing now are hideously buggy and poorly made. I think the Koreans are murdering them in terms of manufacturing and sales...
Konami is like Sega and Capcom, they had many great IPs but only focus on one or two. For Konami, it's Metal Gear, for Capcom, it's Street Fighter or Resident Evil, for Sega it's Sonic the Hedgehog. These companies forgot that outside of those franchise there's still many gamers who are drooling for more Mega Man, Bomberman, Suikoden, Castlevania, Rival Schools, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Virtua Fighter, Darkstalkers, Shining Force, Shenmue, Shinobi, Contra, Gunstar Heroes, Silent Hill, Phantasy Star, Skies of Arcadia, etc.
Konami are assholes, they purposely ruined some of their finest franchises over greed. MGSV could've been an amazing game but the state it's in. Honestly felt too forced, unfinished and untrue to it's source material. I would go as far to say it barely feels like an Metal Gear game to me. MGS3 and MGS4 are a lot better than this.
+Captain Chucklenuts All they had to do was be respectful and sell the games fans asked for ITS NOT THAT HARD that asian pride bullshit ain't gonna get ya anywhere just ask black lives matter with their bull shit black pride. Obi wan Kenobi did say to Anakin and Count Dooku that:Your over confidence will be your downfall. Greatest.....Jedi....EVER lol.
Hey, why get mad at Kojima over what Konami is doing? It's not his fault that the company he was working for up until recently was going out of their way to fuck over its fans on some of the greatest games they were making. I mean, I'm sure working for them was like acid in Kojima's mouth while watching Konami burn every bridge they had with their gamers-- that's their fault, not his.
Unless Konami gets a new helmsman at the very top to redefine its politics, it's gonna eventually shut down completely its video game department in favor of mobile game's (who seriously considers mobile games like genuine video games? Saying this is as ridiculous as saying that a Tiger handheld is a Game Boy). These morons at the board of directors certainly think micro transactions are the future of gaming. In the meantime, they're also losing margins of benefit with their pachinko operations... I hope the tendency is going to continue as it'd serve them right.
Without the creative freedom characterizing its early days, the Japanese goulag that is now Konami won't get any chance to see the emergence of new talents of the stature of Kojima or Igarashi. If they don't want it, then be it, they'll stay a backwater company cattering to addicted gamblers and tweens playing mindlessly with digital cuddly toys.
Your right about that....as much as it pains me like no other game since battlefront 3's cancellation if they were to do this without Kojima and Guellmo it would fail soooo hard they were the geniuses's behind the brilliant writing story telling and horror.
Konami deserve absolutely no respect because they are incompetent idiots. Just look at the way the fuck up PES every fucking year. The keep adding features to the game when old ones are still messed up. It's one thing to not have the technical know-how to fix a product; it's another to be utterly stupid when designing a game (making choices that bring your sanity and intelligence under question). Konami have lost their way with PES. They don't even bother coming here to respond to the criticisms. They showed us that even the quality-minded Japanese can make shitty products. I am so angry at them for not being able to fix the game-play that sometimes I wish I had the power to severely punish them for screwing up every year. EA's FIFA is done and so is Konami's PES. We'll just have to wait for another company to step forward and offer a third alternative to those two pieces of crap. I can write a book the size of an almanac about the innumerable problems in PES, much of which have existed since the early versions. Two of my biggest pet peeves about PES is the lack of Replay ON/OFF option (which used to exist in the old days) and the COM playing with ridiculously high accuracy (pulling off moves and plays that absolutely NO HUMAN can perform). FUCK YOU KONAMI! YOU CAN ALL ROT IN HELL FOR ALL I CARE!
silent hills was the long awaited revival of both the franchise and the company itself... but the stupid fucking ceo let go of that revival.. now they are succumbing to mobile games and do nothing but force youtubers to promote MGS.. when kojima still had his hands on MGS fans would promote it themselves and kojima wouldn't even ask for it..
Still pissed they cancelled silent hill hands down one of the best franchises EVER until 3 at least lol...they're also such stingy bastards -__- can we just buy the rights to silent hill and make a new one or..?
ANOTHER HONORABLE MENTION: As time goes on with *Yu-Gi-Oh*, Konami has become more of an illuminati rather than an actual father to that game. The card game is starting to become a cycle that's getting old: Banlist of certain cards in the game change which determines the format ==> Konami constantly keeps rushing in new cards and new strategies to certain archetypes of decks making us want to give up previous love of certain cards/decks to constantly focusing on new releases of cards and their power ==> Decks that are naturally better than others (what we refer to as "the meta") are constantly bandwagoned because Konami designed them to be simply better than others making it logically the way to have an odds in favor of getting a certain win against the rest of the world ==> Rinse and repeat back to the banlist part.
This whole cycle is Konami and it's as if they prefer being a puppet master to its supporters of this game making people want to spend money on cards that are (in supply and demand of power definition) expensive to get for the sake of only going for meta decks, rather than actually caring about equal balance to all strategies of the decks played in this game.
IGA had mention that shortly before he left Konami, they basically left him with nothing to do, so he took up the hobby of ring crafting. As a result, one of the backer tiers for Bloodstained featured a ring made of his handiwork.
This basically what happened to every single studio that became big due to investor financing. I still remember the day back when EA really produce good games; LHX etc. Now it is just a publisher that squeezes small studios.
