Follow up to my original Linux Vs Windows video I did a while back. Still Windows is better for most gaming than Linux, currently. ah, gotchya. Ill give Debian a try and see if it makes a difference, I doubt it will. but yeah, Vulkan is the awesome. I hope it catches on

I was making a joke with you for having opted for me one of the worst distributions GNU/Linux could have used one based on Arch or even a Debian and also with the latest packages ... The future will be Vulkan :)

It definitely isn't an enthusiast level PC with the best of the best inside of it, but I hardly think its bad.I finally got the money to upgrade to some 1440p monitors, Im able to max out my games at 1440p and stay at 60 fps. For me thats awesome. I dont plan on upgrading until i make the jump to 4k, one day.

Cool Story Bro, Where's your video?

WTH!? If it is ported to Linux it's native. Only the ones that have to run in WINE are not native. Also, many of the games running on Linux have similar to better performance from what I've seen. I even manage to run Tomb Raider on a Linux computer with a Core 2 duo and a GT 730 GPU. Seems pretty viable to me. Bioshock Infinite does the same.

Yes you are correct when they are optimized for PC/Direct X, The issue with Linux is that in general most of the ports are not optimized, just translated.
Real Dudes Review (1 year ago)
Ports are not Native, they do a d3d to opengl translation. nukes a lot of performance. Also The Steam Client for Linux launches the ports using WINE bottles....

Also many games on Windows are themselves ports of console games, however with optimization they can and often do run better on Windows for PC.

Did Play Linux shut down? The download page is not loading to a working location now.

OK, so what you do here is basically compare the games versions quality, not the systems. You got it right, most of the Linux games are ports and inferior in performance so they can't be a fair template to compare both system performance. Yet you keep saying Windows/Linux performs better/worse, well no, is the game version/port in question here. It is very true that is a Windows world out there and after you draw the line with the actual situation with ports and whatnot you will definitely get the better experience, no sane person will deny that. - Let me put it this way: when the latest Batman game was released for PC it performed miserably while on consoles it was OK. Would you have said (back then) that Windows as a gaming platform performed worse than consoles OR that the Windows version of the game performed badly? Would you have used Arkam to compare Consoles versus Windows back then? Well, probably not, because it was a inferior port to use it for a fair comparison. In the video you seem to be aware that it can't be a fair comparison when the ports are unequal in quality. Yet you do it now for comparing Windows vs Linux gaming capabilities and when the inferior Linux port performs (obviously) worse you say: Windows performs better. Try something like GFXbench which is an universal benchmark to get a more fair test. - As for Portal (and other Valve games) yes, it was optimized as much as possible for Linux but is still a Windows game ported to Linux using ToGL https://github.com/ValveSoftware/ToGL (again a translation). - Deus Ex does have a benchmark, in Menu > Extras > Benchmark.

Hey man I definitely appreciate the detailed response, ill be the first to admit im not a badass with Linux. there are definitely things I use Linux for over Windows but currently, not gaming and I think the reasons are obvious. Ill definitely take a look into some other bench marking tools, like the GFXbench you mentioned and see if there are some more direct comparisons i can find, I would love for Linux to be as supported as Windows, maybe one day yeah? Thanks again.

You should try Mad Max on Linux :) It supports Vulkan now...
airspeedmph (1 year ago)
Not yet, it seems to be something wrong with the current (1.1) version. Vulkan performs definitely better that OpenGL, but only because OpenGL has the performance cut in half compared with the 1.0 version.

Nice! I will give it a try for sure
