Overclocking the best Ryzen CPU | Hardware

43 ratings | 4522 views
It’s six months on from the launch of AMD’s Ryzen processors, so we’re taking our favourite one of the bunch - the Ryzen 5 1600X - to see how far we can push it now the platform is more mature. You seriously tried to overclock with MSI's Core and Game Boost on? Such things should always be turned off for overclocking, especially as they can mess with voltages.

my systeam wont boot on 3.9ghz why at 1.390V

Just 4 Ghz on a ryzen 1600X ? i have an 1600 and it runs stable at 3.9 Ghz ! ( with stock cooler ) Glad i bought the 1600 , because i was first expecting that the X could easily go to 4.2 Ghz , but it clearly doesn't

I have a 3.9ghz overclock in mine as well and it’s very stable. I stress tested it at full load for 2 hours it never crashed and my temps didn’t go higher than 51c :). This cpu seems to feed off the overclock its performance just with that little overclock is 10x better.

gertjan van der meij I thought the same, 1600 is clearly better choice
PCGamesN (1 year ago)
gertjan van der meij yeah, it's not a thermal limit either, at least not on our sample. The X-series don't really get you a lot extra, so smart work going for the straight 1600!

I got an Arctic Freezer 33 with a noctua fan on it and my 1600x is sitting nicely at 4GHz.

why not do a water cooling or hydrogen n see if u can get 7Ghz.
PCGamesN (1 year ago)
Lemonadez Tollz partly because we don't have access to liquid hydrogen or the necessary equipment to house it atop a CPU, partly because we wanted to cover what you might be able to do at home with your machine without unduly risking total PC death, and partly because the thermals aren't really the biggest barrier to the 1600X hitting 7GHz.

I could not get more than 3.8 out of my 1600. I still get a score of 1267 so i guess i should be happy. Was hoping for 4ghz of course.. oh well

1.4v i also had increase voltage quite a bit to get above 3.7ghz. Yeah mine is, im sure there are some good ones tho.
PCGamesN (1 year ago)
Yeah, we haven't had the best results out of non-X Ryzen chips either.

Voltage ? I got mine at 3725mhz@1.286V ´best OC, on 3,8Ghz i need 1,33-5V. Non X Ryzens are bad for OC.
