At the start of the year, people did not view Nintendo very favorably. It took a long while for fans to warm up to the quirky console and some of the other bizarre decisions Nintendo made.

butt touch (づ￣ ³￣)づ (___)___)
I think Nintendo realize their lack of ability and doubled down on it. They'll never be able to make a competitive (hardware wise) system and have found a comfort in just releasing hand held systems to a young audience banking on the fact that there will always be a next generation of young kids around. Who knows, they may even regress into just being a playing card company in the future.(and find a comfortable spot there)
honestly I thought the Nintendo was going to go the way of Sega and just start making third party accessories
I'm happy that didn't happen for them and I'm looking forward to what's coming next for the Nintendo switch
The turn around started with Pokemon Go, while not directly released by Nintendo, it got everyone thinking about the company. NES Classic's announcement in September 2016, was also extremely hyped, as it rode the wave from Pokemon Go. There was also a huge social push where every youtube video, tweet, and facebook post, Nintendo released between E3 2016 and October 2016's Switch reveal, had people leaving comments "What is the NX?" Also the president of Japan dressed up as Mario to announce the Olympics coming to Japan, so yeah 2016 started the hype train for Nintendo in 2017.
Yoshi and Kirby are also coming out for the Switch. Two big franchises which can hit big target audiences. I predict Smash Bros will get an announcement or even release in 2018 too. Lots to look forward to-- 2018 will be an even more productive year for the Switch.
I am so excited that the switch is doing well. Nintendo has been my favorite video game company for like forever. I love all their IPs especially pokemon. I'm just waiting for: S M A S H, Mario maker, Animal crossing, pokemon.
Nintendo... good decisions in 2017? I'll admit that some were good decisions, but not all. Do we call their decision with Splatoons voice chat a good decision? How about the paid-for online which they have yet to prove being worth even 20 bucks? Or what about the few crappy mobile games that have slipped through and are now tainting the eShop? Or the 2DS not being released *years earlier* when people were asking for it? Or the lackluster stock of certain coloured joycons? Everyone makes mistakes.
Stop it with the mobile apps, stop it with the season passes, don't start charging for online, don't ever lock game content behind amiibos again and stop accepting physical releases being half digital. Nintendo did much right, but are doing much wrong as well. Don't accept hostile practises just because they are making great games.
No because the Wii U was an incredible system. Why? the games and the e shop. Just because it was a commercial failure, doesn't mean I didn't have the time of my life playing mario maker,Wind waker HD, Twilight princess HD, Mario Kart 8, Donkey kong tropical freeze, Splatoon,Xenoblade chronicles X, Bayonetta 1 and 2, Tokyo mirage sessions etc etc SO MANY AMAZING GAMES
@The Wulff Den: I didn't get your point about the NES Classic on third place on the sales charts in January and why this is supposedly such a big deal. Being on third place and having only three contestants (since the Wii U was discontinued earlier) isn't that hard to achieve.
always been a nintendo fan boy so happy they got it together with the switch was excited from start and couldnt wait too get one still play it everyday the online apps as far as youtube and netflix really aren't important too me at all I just high quality games that are fun too play and the fact that I can take them with me anywhere trumps all the other short falls at least for me it is the right system at the right time and I hope the switch has a long and healthy life cycle
I believed the Switch was going to be amazing and successful from day 1. Me and My best friend have been convinced it will be at Wii level success since it's unveiling.
It's a powerful console that you can use in handheld mode and has awesome games.... I got nothing wrong, just seems like yourself and about half the online videogame "journalists" got it wrong.
This seems to be a very popular channel so I figured I would see if anyone can answer a few question for me.
I bought a switch for my for christmas so I am new to the device.
I have a sandisk 64gb micro SD card and it is completely empty. When I place it in the switch, it tells me that there is only 3.4 gb free on it and it shows the symbol as if it is empty. So why only 3.4 gb available.
Also, if I purchase another switch, which I definitely plan to after breaking it open and playing it, it's freaking awesome! If we purchase digital copies of games, can those be placed onto multiple switches you own somehow or only for 1 console?
Thanks for any help from anyone!
I actually bought Zelda before I got my hands on the Switch because I thought maybe Zelda might sell out too. Also, amazon had a pre release sale and I knew I was going to be buying it anyway. Perhaps this was the case for others as well.
I was personally delighted by the Switch's January press conference. I felt it had all it needed to, and from my experience, most of my peers were incredibly positive as well. So it's shocking and difficult for me to believe there was all this negative backlash. Most of the Youtubers I saw were incredibly positive as well.
The only gripe I have with Switch is the storage space like for real 32gb come on, at least give a man 500gb. But that's my only major gripe.
Needed more color options
Needs more themes
Voice Communication on Console
Plz give me Rouge Galaxy on Switch or StarFox Adventures 2?(Probably just me though)
pein260 I rather have 32GB internal storage that is easy expandeable. Alot of people said that 300$ was already too much so they coudnt make it more expensive. Also: 1. Their games are really small compared to games on PS4/XBOX ONE Zelda: 13GB Mario Odyssey: 5GB Splatoon 2: 4GB. 2. Most games are plug and play so if people buy only or alot phisical they are never gonna need a micro sd card or if onnly a small one. Im not trying to defend the switch or Nintendo but i think it was a good decision to try to go for a low price in that regard.
They should have included the micro card at least then. Nintendo is a good enough company, for the most part, but all the extras they release are a bit much. 32GB? Give me the micro card I'm going to need that you know I'm going to need
"What we all got wrong." Speak for yourself, I predicted this success from a mile away. Everyone complained about the January reveal, but why? They not only told us what games would be available at launch, but also told us about spring games, summer games, fall games, and winter games. When has a major game company ever done that?
Remember the Gameboy with 30 hours of battery life. Nintendo Switch 3 or 6 hours depending on the game. My theory Nintendo sucks at battery life the only time they got it right was when the brick aka Gameboy used 4 AA so they always sucked at battery life
You left out two things.
1: First run of the SNES Classic Edition had more units than the entirety of the NES classic edition with Nintendo consistantly shipping new runs to the point where people found it in stores in the wild. Online, still impossible to order.
2: To combat the scalping and Chinese knockoffs of the NES classic edition Nintendo announced a rerelease of the device for 2018 promising a bigger first run. In the meantime stores such as GameStop and Amazon Prime were selling the NES classic edition in the summer and as recently as earlier this morning.
