I had never played a God of War before until the latest one which I completed recently, thought it was amazing so I’ve decided to play all the old ones through Playstation Now. I got to the spike towers yesterday and it drove me mad , haven’t shouted at my tv like that for years and years haha!
It's always the turret mini-game sections in the Jak games for me.
Jak 1 - Shooting the swamp rat lurkers in Boggy Swamp (WAY harder than the fishing mini-game)
Jak 2 - Shooting the Krimson Guard jetpack guys and the battleship at the Drill Platform
Jak 3 - Defending Spargus from the War of the Worlds-esque mech things near the end of the game.
One of the worst difficulty spikes I've ever been through was the Batomys boss fight in Valkyria Chronicles. Massive tank that comes out of nowhere, and has an invincible bodyguard that can one round any of your units. Ridiculous yes, but can eventually be overcome.
I'm a casual and the sewer from Ratchet took me 3 attempts. The first 2 were literally just to show me you couldn't stop and fight anything, just run. The first 2 attempts i tried kill, run, kill run, kill. on every play through since it's been a one shot.
this level may kill you 2-3 times but that's about it. had more deaths on final boss or random gunship / large brain encounters
then i got a level 10 ryno and deaths became a memory
Wow. I never knew that the sewer part in Ratchet & Clank was so hard. I remember my cousin owning the demo of the original on the PS2 and whenever we got to that part we tried to rush as fast as all hell just to see what lied beyond.
Unfortunately, we never got the chance to find out :(
I could try by myself but sadly, my cousin gave his PS2 away to a friend some years ago...
Wish he gaved that to me :(
Dark souls definitely have a difficulty Spike. Have you fought ornstein and smough? After that it's smooth sailing, but O&S will screw a new player numerous times (third try for me cuz solaire summon. Praise the sun!). Dark souls 2 is just a clusterfuck, but in 3 the dancer marks a steep difficulty Spike if you fight her early, like I did...
that Jak2 mission where you had to clean the canalisation with 3 idiots who where A, ultra slow and B, always getting killed.
or where you had to do the race through whole haven city against that one guy from the crimson guard 😥
Is...is no one going to talk about that blasted first oblivion gate in the elder scrolls IV? By then you've killed a couple bandits, looted their hideouts and then you get w alloped by dremora. My character was bow based too and I ran out of arrows, and then had to use my knife, which broke soon after. I don't want to ever think about that...ever.
Apartment 7 I never got caught at a disadvantage because I always build up all my characters in multi-character games evenly when one character reaches 11 point I change the character out to another character and get used to using every single character that I'm that I have even if I don't like the character just so I don't get carded at a disadvantage if I'm forced to use that character
Aeris is the most op character in the game. If you want unfair difficulty, try Xenogears. You have those sections of the game where you fight several bosses one after the other. The save points are also pretty sparse.
That difficulty spike rob face is the face you'll have on the whole time when playing Jak 2. You'll most likely do what a lot of others do and skip straight to Jak 3, trust me it's worth it, it's not hard to catch up on the story. For me, Jak 2 was certainly a love hate relationship for me

The second one balances difficulty and RPG mechanics seamlessly to make the game always rewarding. " Free. Recommended March 6. "Fun and engaging game with a twist that comes out of left field. Not very long, but worth the time, definitely worth a second play through to unlock all its secrets.
